Introducing a New Grief Group for Our Rural Community

My name is Haley Smith, and I have had the honor of serving our rural community for many years through Smith Family Funeral Homes, which my husband and I have owned and operated since 2010. We serve across five locations, walking with families during some of life’s most sacred and sorrowful moments.

In addition to my role at the funeral home, I hold a Master of Divinity, a Certificate in Pastoral Counseling, and CPE credentials in chaplaincy care. Through this calling, I have spent much time reflecting on our rural communities’ core beliefs, values, and unique needs, especially the deep need for healing and connection following grief. Therefore, I am launching a community-based grief group to offer space for healing, companionship, and compassionate care.

This new group will meet twice a month at our Smith Family Funeral Homes location in Haskell, which is conveniently located for many of you. Starting on August 14, 2025, meetings will be held at 12 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. If a funeral is scheduled, we will move to a nearby park or activity center. We will provide a Zoom link for those who wish to attend online.

This will be a gentle, open space for anyone who has experienced loss—recently or long ago—and desires healing in community. If the group is well-received, we may begin meeting weekly.
