Remember our post from last week? Here’s some more information!

The biggest takeaway from all of my information:

UNTREATED hearing loss is a major risk factor for developing dementia! But remember that hearing loss is a MODIFIABLE risk factor, which means that you can do something about it!

So if you are not hearing as well as you once did, get a complete diagnostic hearing exam by our lovely Dr. Arnold!

In 2023, there was a study that took people with hearing loss that were otherwise healthy and a group of people that had other risk factors for cognitive decline and hearing loss.

Half of each group were fit with hearing aids and their cognition was tested three years later. The healthy people with hearing loss had no significant difference in cognitive decline. But the people with other risk factors for cognitive decline showed a 48 percent more cognitive decline in those that did not have hearing aids.

Here’s another fun sound to take us into the weekend!! Yes, a dog barking can be frustrating to hear, but we love our fur babies and we should always be able to hear them!

Dr. Arnold wanted to share some knowledge with you all!!

There was a study out of John’s Hopkins in 2012 that found that individuals with mild hearing loss are twice as likely to develop dementia, people with moderate hearing loss are three times more likely to develop dementia, and people with severe hearing loss are four times more likely to develop dementia.

This is one of the many reasons why it is so important to take care of your health, especially your ears!
