After 20 years working in the restaurant business in California, Rosa Avila was at a career crossroads.

“I thought something is not right working here,” admits Rosa, now 59. “Maybe I need to find something more. My dream always was to be a CNA (certified nursing assistant)."

Today, residents and their families alike sing her praises. "She was the best caregiver you could have ever asked for,” says Marlene Malchert. “She was good to my husband. She made the days easier here. It was quite a change from living at home.”

If practice makes perfect, Ruth Mittleider is about as close to perfect as a musician can get. This Good Samaritan – Herreid resident been practicing the organ and the piano for nearly 85 years. Today, she shares her talents by playing at her church every other Sunday, as well as often sitting at the piano at the Good Samaritan – Herreid.

A series of unfortunate events, starting with a traumatic brain injury, led Larry to the brink of homelessness.

Moving in to Good Samaritan Society – Valley Vista in Wamego, Kansas, provided Larry the support he needed as well as peace of mind for his loved ones.

Community partner Elaine Hild loves helping lift residents' spirits through song. She plays instruments several hours a week at Good Samaritan Society – Loveland Village and has an enthusiastic audience that benefits from the beauty her music provides.

One of those residents is Denny Liggitt. Even though he has hearing and vision deficits, the music brings him joy and makes him come alive as he helps direct the songs.

Denny's wife lives at Loveland Village in independent living and enjoys seeing her husband light up as he listens to the viola music.

It's a full-circle moment for Dana Bachmeier, administrator at Good Samaritan – Sioux Falls Village. She learned about leadership in senior care through Good Samaritan's Administrator in Training (AIT) program, and now she's mentoring Taylor Post's hands-on experience.

“I think what’s really special about I went through the AIT program and now I get to help someone to succeed and go through the program themselves," she says.

For her part, Taylor is excited to learn more. "I feel like that is what I was destined for," she says.

Our campus daycare celebrated the Week of the Young Child with a positivity tree! The Week of the Young Child is a fun-filled week celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers, families and communities.

All week, we asked parents to leave a note of positivity for their kiddo. We ended up with a full tree filled with positivity! It has been a joy reading the sweet notes. 💗

It's a bevvy of Bettys!

Betty Krueger, age 99, hosted her quarterly "Betty Club" at the Villa today, where 16 Bettys attended the event. Two new Bettys who currently live at the Villa were inducted into the club.

The Bettys took meeting minutes, then a tour the of the facility and ended with refreshments.

A great time was had by all!
