Eating “plant-based” doesn’t automatically protect your brain — quality is everything.

A new 11-year study of 93,000 adults found:
Healthy plant foods* → 12% _lower_ dementia risk
Unhealthy plant foods* → 6% _higher_ dementia risk

Even better news? People who cut back on ultra-processed plant foods later in life still lowered their risk by 11%. It’s not too late to make the switch.

Think more veggies, beans, berries, and whole grains. Less fried foods, refined grains, and added sugar.

Your gut might hold clues about your brain health — years before memory issues show up.

Scientists just found that tiny molecules from gut bacteria, measured in a simple blood test, could help spot the earliest signs of cognitive decline.

In the study, an AI model using just 6 of these “gut markers” could tell healthy adults from those with mild cognitive impairment with over 80% accuracy.

What this means: Changes in your digestive system may be talking to your brain long before dementia symptoms start. And catching those changes early could open the door to prevention through diet, probiotics, or personalized nutrition.

Research is still early, but it’s a hopeful step toward easier, earlier testing.
