2026 APTA-MS Capitol Day is right around the corner! 📣
APTA-Mississippi members are invited to join us at the State Capitol rotunda on January 21, 2026, from 8:00–11:00 AM. This in-person event offers a valuable opportunity to meet with legislators and discuss the role of physical therapy in Mississippi, our impact on communities, and key legislative priorities — including efforts to advance direct patient access / patient choice.
Legislative advocacy remains central to our mission. Whether you plan to attend or not, we encourage all members to contact their local legislators before January 21. 📝

Dear Members,

APTA and APTA-MS strongly oppose the RISE Committee's recommendation to classify the DPT as a graduate degree rather than a professional degree. This change would significantly reduce federal loan limits for DPT students - from $50,000 annually to $20,500 - with a lifetime cap of $100,000, making physical therapy education less accessible and threatening the pipeline of qualified clinicians.

Please refer to APTA President, Kyle Covington's statement then consider going to the Action Center to send a prepared email to our Mississippi members of Congress on this very important isssue.

Telehealth Reimbursement Extended Through January 2026
We’re pleased to share that with the passage of H.R. 5371, key Medicare telehealth flexibilities have been extended through January 30, 2026. This extension restores rules that were set to expire, providing stability for providers and patients. 💻✨

What’s included:
• Geographic restrictions removed and continued allowance for home visits
• Allied health professionals (PTs, OTs, SLPs, audiologists) remain eligible to provide telehealth
• FQHCs and rural health clinics can continue as distant site providers
• Audio-only services for non-behavioral health care continue
• Retroactive coverage through January 30th

This is especially important for Mississippi, where telehealth supports rural communities, protects patient access, stabilizes provider revenue, and ensures continuity of care. 🌟
