💛Happy New Friend Friday! Sydney is a Petal native and proud graduate of Petal High School. She was a competitive dancer growing up and later a member of the Touch of Gold dance team at Jones College, where she earned her Associate’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.

While her academic background is in nutrition, her true passion is integrative pediatrics and brain development. After experiencing a concussion in college, Sydney completed vision therapy at BVSEC and quickly realized the life-changing impact it can have. She often says she wishes she had known about vision therapy sooner, “taking the ACT wouldn’t have been such a dread.”

After such a positive personal experience, Sydney says she wanted to come back and be part of the magic at BVSEC.

We are so honored that Delbert Hosemann will be giving a proclamation at 9:00 AM on the steps outside the Mississippi State Capitol officially naming March as Brain Injury Awareness Month.

We already see some sweet, familiar faces in these pictures and couldn’t be more grateful for this community. 💙

If you’re able, wear blue and come stand with us in support of brain injury awareness!

💚March is Brain Injury Awareness Month!

It's an important reminder that when the brain is injured, the visual system is often affected too.

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month!

It’s an important reminder that when the brain is injured, the visual system is often affected too.

Concussion, stroke, and other acquired brain injuries can disrupt how the eyes work together, how the brain processes visual information, and how patients move through their world. Many individuals experience double vision, headaches, light sensitivity, poor concentration, dizziness, or difficulty reading - all symptoms that are frequently misunderstood or overlooked.

Vision Therapy, guided by trained developmental optometrists and therapists, plays a critical role in neuro-optometric rehabilitation. Through individualized, evidence-informed programs, patients can rebuild visual efficiency, regain confidence, and restore functional skills that impact school, work, and daily life.

If you or someone you know is recovering from a brain injury and struggling with visual symptoms, don’t overlook this vital piece of the puzzle.

🔎 Find a qualified developmental optometrist through OVDRA’s Locate a Doctor directory: https://locate.covd.org/
