What are the areas in which you habitually feel fearful? And what are you doing to break out of that bo***ge?
For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and love and a sound mind. (II Timothy 1: 7)
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41: 10)
I sought the Lord, and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears. (Psalm 34:4)
Each of us have a choice about what kinds of seeds go into our minds, and I want to focus on what God says. Please remember that God is ready, willing, and able to hear our prayers when we humble ourselves, submit to His will in our lives, and depend on Him. The last three phrases in that sentence are key. My hope and dependence are on the Lord. Fear is NOT the will of God, and, in fact, it can sabotage what He wants to do. God said that He would do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think. His ways are higher, and He doesn’t need our instruction! (Smile) Do you believe His Word?
This battle for the mind is often much more immediate and closer to home. Worries about finances, family, or your future are forms of fear. When you worry, you go over and over the negative possibilities in your mind. Every time you imagine the worst, fear’s shackles get a tighter grip.
Fear is, in fact, the opposite of faith. Jesus actually proclaimed this to his disciples who were freaking out over a storm. He said, “O ye of little faith, why do you fear?”
Another way of thinking about this is that fear is actually a form of faith. However, it’s faith in the negative! The problem is, faith works – in whatever direction! What you focus on and believe in, that’s where your actions tend to go. Where you invest your actions (or where you do nothing due to paralysis), those are the results you are likely to get. So worry does not prevent negative outcomes; on the contrary, in a strange way it makes it even more likely that your fears will come true!
