As we continue to celebrate Social Work Month, we want to take a moment to recognize someone who embodies the heart and soul of this profession, Chuck McRaney, LCSW. For 14 years, Chuck has been a cornerstone of Gentiva, offering not just his expertise but his compassion, wisdom, and unwavering support to both his patients and colleagues.

Our very own nurse, Savanah Hill, put it best:

“Chuck is as genuine as they come. What you see is what you get. He has always been there to help his coworkers and his patients. Chuck loves what he does, and honestly, I couldn’t think of anyone better at this job. He was called to be a hospice social worker. Chuck has been an amazing friend to me and my family and has a genuine heart to help people.”

This month, we honor the incredible work of social workers, and today, we're shining a light on Shelley Griffith, LMSW! Shelley has been part of the Gentiva family since 2020, first as an intern and later returning as a dedicated hospice social worker.

Shelley's unwavering commitment to her patients and their families is truly inspiring. She brings compassion, strength, and guidance to those facing life's most difficult moments.

Here's what one of our nurses, Amanda Baylis, had to say about Shelley:

"Shelley is the best coworker and friend you can have! She's always there for support or to see the humor in the day-to-day. We are lucky to have her!"

Thank you, Shelley, for your heart, dedication, and the difference you make every single day!

Thanksgiving has passed, and now it’s time to embrace the Christmas season and, with it, our Christmas drive for patients. We’re thrilled to partner with Senior Helpers of Hattiesburg to help make this Christmas extra special for those in our care.

For many of our patients, this will be their last Christmas. Small gestures and heartfelt gifts can bring light and joy during a difficult time.

If you’d like to adopt one of our patients and make their holiday brighter, please contact our office or visit one of the listed locations!

The holidays can be a difficult time for many, especially for those on hospice and their caregivers. It’s a season that highlights family, togetherness, and traditions, but for some, these moments can feel out of reach.

Several years ago, our office recognized this and decided to step in. We began adopting patients and caregivers who didn’t have much family support or weren’t able to participate in Thanksgiving festivities. This year, we are so proud to share that our team delivered over 20 Thanksgiving meals to patients and their caregivers.

It’s a small gesture, but one that reminds us all of the power of community and compassion. To those facing loss, loneliness, or challenges this season, you are not alone. Let’s all look for ways to lift each other up during this season of gratitude.

The second chaplain we would like to honor is a veteran on the team! John Cockrell has been with our office for over 13 years. He wears many hats and is always the first to volunteer to help out! Here, John was the sole grill master for Brookdale Assisted Living facilities' truck-or-treat event. John, thank you for truly leading by example.

The first Chaplain is Blake McDaniel. Blake has only been with us a short while but is already a big part of the family! He has an infectious laugh and is able to bring humor and joy to our patients and staff! He may be an LSU fan, but we still appreciate him!
