What does that look like?
In the first first picture the head is born, I’m on both knees. There’s a pause. I even remember asking my birth team if he was okay, even though i know all the things i needed reassurance in the moment. Eventually i pulled both legs up and was in a squat position where the rest of him was born and i caught my own baby.
Why do i share birth pictures? Because the last several generations, birth has been made to be taboo, gross and completely undiscussed. That’s lead to generations of terrified, uneducated women and families who blindly follow what someone tells them to do without questioning a thing. Americans are facing TERRIFYING birth statistics for a first world country and Mississippi is looking down the barrel of the worst of the worst statistics. It’s time we change the narrative. Become uncomfortable with looking at “those disgusting birth pictures and videos.” until birth is no longer scary and we learn to trust our God given intuition and walk this journey alongside our care teams.
Since 99.9% of women have never seen a live birth like they used too, i don’t mind making a few people uncomfortable by sharing beautiful photos of women doing those “scary and uncomfortable” things.
More of your friends and families have traumatizing birth stores then not. It’s time the narrative is changed. One birth picture and one birth at at time.
