The 'r-word' slur is making a comeback, but disability advocates are sharing why renormalizing this type of language reverses progress and hinders inclusion. ACANY and LIFEPlan members explain why it's more than "just a word" in our newest blog post. Read it at https://acany.org/the-return-of-the-r-word-self-advocates-perspectives/

According to recent publications and growing concerns among advocacy groups, the use of the “R” word and other discriminatory language has alarmingly resurfaced in media, entertainment, and everyday conversations.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) — a transformative law that continues to shape a more inclusive and accessible world.

At LIFEPlan CCO and ACANY CCO, we honor this milestone by reaffirming our shared mission to Support and empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families to live their happiest, healthiest, and most meaningful lives.

The ADA laid the foundation for equity and opportunity. Every day, our care managers build on that legacy — advocating, supporting, and walking alongside the people we serve as they pursue their goals and dreams.
Let’s celebrate progress — and keep pushing for a future where everyone belongs.

Leah Helmer recently earned her two-year CPR certification! She decided to enroll in a CPR class after witnessing someone choking at the mall and wishing she had the skills to help.

Leah has continued to embrace opportunities to learn new skills by participating in a variety of classes offered at her local library and high school. From cooking to crafting, she’s learned how to make cavatelli, stained glass, and magnets!

In a class called, “Money and You”, she is gaining valuable money management skills to help her navigate financial decisions with confidence!

Thank you, Leah, for inspiring us to keep growing, learning, and becoming the best versions of ourselves!
