Welcome to Renaissance Wellness! Melanie and Anthony Anastasiou created Renaissance Wellness as a community page to provide valuable information on living a healthier and cleaner life. Originally we started looking for ways to remove the toxins in our home to help support Anthony as he suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. After a year of changing things over and seeing major improvements in his health we have decided to utilize this page as a home for those who seek to improve their health as well. When I feel the trauma response coming on, I often say "I feel the fight or flight " so I take a step back and ask what am I avoiding? How does this make me feel? Why am I feeling this way? What was the trigger?

Finding out what the trigger was helps to know what caused it to happen in the first place and can help get to the root of the issue.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

What you eat for breakfast sets the tone for the rest of the day.

It is best to follow the European way of eating, which is a big meal for breakfast and as the day progresses, eat less and less. Breakfast is a balanced meal with protein, healthy fats and healthy carbs.

Breakfast is literally what it sounds like - we are breaking our fast for the day.

Food gives us fuel for the day ahead.

By eating more in the morning, we give our bodies more time to burn off the calories. By eating less at night, and even stopping eating at an early hour, we give our bodies enough time to rest. Which results in a good night’s sleep because the food is not giving our brain energy.

So be sure to have that hearty breakfast and lay off the midnight snack!

Also a tip: If you find that you are craving food at night, that means you are not eating enough during the day.

Another tip: I tend to make big meals for dinner, and then save the leftovers for breakfast.

Did someone say Blueberries?! Blueberries are my absolute favorite!!!!!!!

When they are in season, we usually can’t keep enough in the house.

Good thing, my Dr said to me if you ever want “candy” grab a handful of blueberries.

Some blueberry items that are my favorite are blueberry “apple” sauce, Blueberry rooibos tea, and Peanut Butter & Blueberry Jam Sandwich just to name a few. I can make a meal out of
Blueberries.

Blueberries contain Vitamin K which helps with bone health and blood clotting. Vitamin c which supports the immune system. Manganese. It also has antioxidants that give it, its beautiful blue color, lowers blood sugar, and prevention of diabetes and cancer.

Avocados is one of my go to's. On the Mediterranean diet, healthy fats are a must.

Avocados are loaded with nutrients. Vitamin K, Folate, Vitamin C, Potassium,
Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Vitamin E.

Avacados are considered a healthy fat.

I have also heard and may have added health benefits like helping with
Thyroid, Loosing weight, fighting cancer, and heart health just to name a few.

Tip when Eating Out: When I eat out, I usually go for Mexican, so I can have guacamole. But I can totally eat avocado, sometimes plain but with a dash of Himalayan salt... the best! You can keep your toast.
