Throughout her time with us, Dorothy has provided compassionate, high-quality care to our patients and has been a trusted and collaborative partner to our staff. Did you know that American physician Daniel Hale Williams was the first Black doctor, and second American doctor, to perform successful open heart surgery in 1893, and that he co-founded the National Medical Association in response to the American Medical Association's denial of membership to Black people?

As if that wasn’t enough, he founded Provident Hospital, the first non-segregated hospital in the United States; and was later appointed surgeon-in-chief of Freedman's Hospital in Washington, D.C., among many other notable achievements.
