Although we are currently in Greece, our hearts are heavy for Haverhill (our other home). We pray for Mr. Francis Gigliotti, his family, and our community — for healing, unity, compassion, peace, and love.

“We know from early reports that Francis was experiencing a mental health crisis. And we also know that Massachusetts strictly limits how police use force, especially when it comes to restraints that affect breathing.
In Massachusetts regulations (550 CMR 6.04-6.06), officers are not allowed to kneel on someone’s back, chest, neck, or keep them face-down in a way that restricts breathing, except in very temporary circumstances. Officers are also required to intervene if excessive force is used, and to reposition someone quickly if they are face-down and struggling to breathe.
The presumption of innocence applies to everyone, to those being policed and to the police themselves. However, especially when a life has been lost, that principle demands more than a performative investigation. This tragedy demands a thorough, independent, and transparent one.”
