Tai Chi Pop Up Class

This session gives newcomers a clear, accessible introduction to taijiquan (tai chi). We will begin with gentle joint-opening warm-ups to loosen the body and settle the breath. From there, we will explore how tai chi movements coordinate with natural breathing with the breath leading and the movement following.
Tai chi walking will be introduced to give a sense of balance and weight shifting with an emphasis on simple breath driven motion.
Much of the time will be spent in practice: slowing down, moving with the breath and experiencing the calm, meditative quality tai chi is know for. A few basic stances and moves will be introduced and practiced and a short Yang style flow may be introduced from the form. This class is suitable for beginners and requires no experience.
