Carbs are NOT the enemy! Dr Dr. Garth Davis is worth following for evidence based nutrition information ❤️
Add glass of soy milk and cup of coffee and I am ready to go. And I can hear the questions flying.
1) But where is your protein?: 🤦♂️. Read my book. Lol. Simply put, I am not obsessed with protein. I will get protein later. Still has some from soy milk . I like to center my protein around my workout. Studies show for muscle growth protein timing doesn’t matter but I keep it around workout time because I only want to stimulate IGF1 and mTOR once during day. Much longer discussion. This is controversial but at 55 I am way stronger than I was at 25. I find protein in morning makes me feel heavy. I end up with about 70-80 gm a day.
2) But seed oils are inflammatory: olive oil is not seed oil but neither seed nor olive oil are inflammatory. In fact, olive oil has great antioxidant in its polyphenols. If you are trying to lose weight then don’t overdo oils because they are calorie dense. I do find I am less hungry later when I add fat to my carbs. The studies on benefits of olive oil are numerous. See my debate with Rip on . Really, I just love the taste on sourdough. Common in Mediterranean diet.
3) But fruit is sugar and will make you fat.: if you believe this you are dead to me, lol. Carbs do not directly make you fat, excess calories do. In fact, it is very difficult for the body to convert carbs to fat, called de novo lipogenesis. Multiple studies and meta analysis have shown carbs do not cause obesity and multiple studies show fruit is extremely good for you. In fact, in 1940’s Dr. Walter Kempner showed that eating nothing but rice and fruit is an excellent way of controlling diabetes and weight (though he would whip me for olive oil). The problem is not the carbs. The problem is our ability to process carbs. This happens when saturated fat blocks production of insulin receptors. We need to concentrate on treating insulin resistance NOT blood sugar levels. A whole other debate that is lost on so many, including the nominee for surgeon general, whom I guarantee has not read the literature.
I can go on and on. Bottom line, it is a healthy breakfast.
