Coffee with a Cop was launched right here in Hawthorne! National Coffee with a Cop Day grew out of the casual coffee conversations held in 2011 by the Hawthorne (California) Police Department, which quickly spread throughout the country and then the world.
The purposes of the José Martí
Society are: To promote the union of
the Cuban family in exile through
patriotic, cultural and social acts.
Michael James Gillespie Hawthorne high 1958, was an American college baseball coach. He served as the head coach at UC Irvine and head coach at USC from 1987 to 2006. He led USC to the 1998 College World Series championship, having previously won it as a player in 1961.
Darlene Love a community activist. She was a city of Hawthorne police commissioner and most recently a seniors commissioner. She served in many organizations: Hawthorne Women’s Club, Hawthorne Lion’s Club, Moneta Gardens Improvement Inc., South Bay Workforce Investment Board, Hawthorne Chamber, Holly Park Homeowners Association, Behavioral Health Services and president of the Sulphur Springs Club. Darlene was the recipient of numerous awards and commendations for her many years of selfless, dedicated service.
