Kelsey Opitz, daughter of Kevin and Linda Kudrna, grew up in Hay Springs, Nebraska, alongside her siblings Chris Drake and Trisha Kudrna. She graduated from Hay Springs High School in 2012 and went on to earn her Associate of Science degree from Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) in Scottsbluff in 2014.
Following her time at WNCC, Kelsey attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center for a year before relocating to the Sioux Falls, South Dakota area. While in South Dakota, she worked at Wells Fargo Bank and began building a family with her significant other, Mike Opitz. In December 2015, they welcomed their first son, Brantley, and in 2019, their family grew again with the arrival of twin boys, Parker and Blaine.
Later that year, Kelsey and her family made the decision to return to Hay Springs. Upon moving back, she purchased the Main Street Grind coffee shop from her sister. In October 2021, during a staffing shortage amid the COVID-19 outbreak, Kelsey stepped in as a part-time CNA at Pioneer Manor. That experience sparked a deeper interest in healthcare, and in August 2022, she enrolled in the LPN program at WNCC in Alliance.
After earning her LPN in 2023, Kelsey continued her work at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home while pursuing her long-term goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. She was accepted into the LPN-to-RN Bridge Program at WNCC and graduated with her RN in May 2025.
We are excited to welcome Kelsey as the new Director of Nursing at Pioneer Manor. Her dedication, compassion, and commitment to our residents and staff make her a valuable leader in our community.
