A few days ago, I posted about THE GOLDEN HOUR (go back and look if you don't know what I'm talking about).
It is a beautiful thing, however, it is not what many mothers experience. Things happen - baby has trouble breathing, mom has complications, etc - where baby has to be whisked away in a hurry. Other times, the care team doesn't know any better and disrupts this time with things that probably could have waited until later.
Not being able to take advantage of those first moments after delivery can have a staggering impact on breastfeeding. BUT it doesn't make it impossible! With the right support and approach, feeding baby in whichever way you prefer can succeed.
That is where professional support can be vital. Whether it is from a lactation consultant in the hospital, and breastfeeding support group, or one on one care from an IBCLC.
Everyone having trouble feeding their baby deserves professional support!

It is the first hour after delivery when mom and baby have uninterrupted skin to skin time.

It helps regulate your newborn's temperature, breathing, blood sugar, and helps with breastfeeding.

Make sure your care team and family know that you want get the most out of the first hour with you baby. No visitors. No bath. Most other things, like checking temperature, can be done while Baby is right there on your chest!

🤰The best time to prepare for feeding your baby is before she gets here! 🤱
Here are some steps you can take during pregnancy:

🟢 Take a breastfeeding class or schedule a visit with a lactation consultant.

🟣 Consider you situation and whether you plan on pumping for your baby.
- If you do, make sure to check with your insurance and order you pump
- Get familiar with pump parts and how they work

🟢 Talk to friends and family about your plan for feeding your baby and how they can support you.

🟣 Make sure you are nourishing your body with healthy foods and movement!
