How brave you are for slowing down. For not finishing that to-do list. How courageous you are for not crossing that finish line, because your body said “enough.”

How fearless you are for choosing the quiet of your soul over those voices driving you always towards more.
How bold, how rebellious -
you, out there,
honoring your own natural rhythm,
going against the culture’s breakneck speed.

I want to make heroes of those who slow down.
I want to make heroes of those who listen to their bodies, and do not strive for more than what the soul truly needs.
I want to make heroes of those who do not force or push, but surrender to each moment as it opens.
I want to applaud those who may not be driven towards success as we know it, but instead are nurturing something deep and subtle and needed.
I want to celebrate those brave enough to cease all doing, even for a second, and sit with the ache in their hearts. A task many find harder than summiting the highest peak.
I want to make heroes of those who honor their limitations. Who are unable to keep up with the busy-ness of our times, yet show up to each profound, necessary moment.
Truly, it is an act of courage and rebellion to do any such thing,
in a world demanding you resist your own self, your own rhythm, your own soul.
The paradox is that often when we cease our incessant doing, even for a minute, and listen to that quiet voice within, we discover what it is we absolutely must do, and what instead can fall away.
We finally hear the call towards what serves our soul,
and what then will serve the world. Nothing more, nothing less.
A hero is simply someone brave.
So come, be softly brave.
Be a new, quieter kind of hero.
Few may applaud, it’s true, but your soul certainly will.

HOW TO HELP
When bad things are happening
it's common to feel helpless
there is so much wrong
and so little to be done
but remember

everything exists in energy
your intentions matter

set kindness as your focus
in your little corner of the world
it makes ripples you see
ripples are contagious
they form into waves
and consistent
determined little waves
can move mountains
given time

your kindness
your care
your hope
has weight
send it out
send it out

each time you wish a stranger safe
I believe the universe hears.

We are coming to the end of another unique year.
You have a couple of weeks left,
to let it all go.

Let go of worry, what will be will be.
Let go of regret, what’s done is done.
Let go of anger, it’s prolonging your pain.

Let it all go and make way.

You cant reach for the new, if your arms are full of yesterday’s baggage.

We can’t go back, my friends, but we can move on, lightly, without that load.

So...
Let it all go, set it all down.
It’s dragging you back.
And you're not going back,
You’re going forward.

So go forward, with peace.

You did what you did,
life gave what it gave,
and we are who we are.

March on…

Love first.

This is a reminder to let you know that you are not here just to do stuff, just to perform duties and complete tasks.
You are here also to feel happy, and content, and inspired and well within yourself.
You are here to have some fun, create meaningful moments and find the sparkle in your eyes again.
You are here to unravel the magic of being alive, the magic of being you. To heal, to feel whole again.
Do something today that lights you up. That activates your joy. That brings about a genuine smile from your heart.
You are worth the effort.

Plants and animals don’t fight the winter; they don’t pretend it’s not happening and attempt to carry on living the same lives that they lived in the summer. They prepare. They adapt. They perform extraordinary acts of metamorphosis to get them through.
Winter is a time of withdrawing from the world, maximising scant resources, carrying out acts of brutal efficiency and vanishing from sight; but that’s where the transformation occurs.
Winter is not the death of the life cycle, but its crucible. Once we stop wishing it were summer, winter can be a glorious season in which the world takes on a sparse beauty and even the pavements sparkle.
It’s a time for reflection and recuperation, for slow replenishment, for putting your house in order.
Doing those deeply unfashionable things; slowing down, letting your spare time expand, getting enough sleep, resting ...

May I live this day

Compassionate of heart,
Clear in word,
Gracious in awareness,
Courageous in thought,
Generous in love.

Our Story

We believe yoga should be accessible to all, not just the ultra-strong or most flexible. Many OBP Yoga clients are newer to yoga or looking to build a strong foundation of basics. Our clients are often interested in stress relief, reducing aches and pains, or coming back to healthy movement after a major injury, and may not feel comfortable in a traditional studio setting. We are committed to helping you move better and feel better in your body, so you can go out and give your best to the commitments that matter most to you.

Off the Beaten Path Yoga provides yoga services without the confines of a studio. We offer personal sessions; classes for your own small group on a weekly, monthly or one-time basis; as well as private and public group yoga hikes in the greater Haymarket, Virginia area. Off the Beaten Path Yoga is a woman and veteran owned business committed to supporting veteran and animal causes within our community.
