This page is not monitored frequently and cannot provide any clinical or emergency services. Founded in 1964, High Plains Mental Health Center has been serving the residents of Northwest Kansas with mental health services for more than five decades. We are a Licensed Community Mental Health Center, Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic and Licensed Substance Use Disorder treatment program dedicated to an aggressive pursuit of providing a comprehensive mental health program to the residents of Northwest Kansas. Embodied in this pursuit are fundamental principles of establishing quality services as close to home as possible, at an affordable fee and delivered in the least disruptive manner available. Such services will offer a continuum of care so that treatment can be individualized. Staff will respond quickly and compassionately to those reaching out to us. If you live within our 20-county service area, We’re Here for You! Our services include outpatient services (individual, family and group therapy); emergency services; community support services for adults and community based services for youth; substance use treatment; and public education and outreach. No one will be denied access to services due to inability to pay. There is a discounted/sliding fee schedule available based on family size and income. We have a 24/7 crisis hotline: 1-800-432-0333. We value, believe, and practice:
The delivery of quality services, as close to home as possible, in a manner that is affordable and resource sensitive. That our customer is the client/patient and their community. A continuous quality improvement process focused on effective satisfaction and outcomes of service. A locally governed, administered, and delivered comprehensive community mental health system of service. Individualized treatment and services to assist individuals to live safely within their capacities as independently as they choose. The development, expansion, and sustaining of staff and Center capacities and competencies. Advocacy for our patients and communities focused on their needs and potentials. The importance of prevention and education for communities and individuals. Continuing education and training for our staff. The use of current bio-psycho-social models of treatment and service. High Plains Mental Health Center operates and maintains its Social Media site as a public service to provide information about its programs, services, projects, issues, events and activities. While we recognize and understand social media has become a place for individuals to express their thoughts and opinions on a variety of topics, this site is a limited public forum, not a general forum open to the public to comment on any and all matters, and High Plains staff moderates the page accordingly. Comments could be hidden from public view or deleted if:
A. The comment contains confidential PHI about treatment and diagnoses. These comments will be hidden whether they are positive or negative toward High Plains. This is a reflection of our efforts to protect patient privacy. Comments will meet this criteria if they disclose a patient’s diagnosis, identify someone as a patient of ours (current or former), or detail their treatment experience at High Plains. B. The commenter makes a threat toward High Plains or another person. If the comment could be understood as a criminal threat, the person also will be blocked from our page and additional action could be taken. C. The comment contains profanity, obscene, or explicit information. D. The comment references illegal activity. E. The comment advertises commercial products or services. F. The comment contains copyrighted or other infringing material. G. The comment is not topically related to the posts or limited public forum of the site. H. The comment contains material that can be considered a defamation of character to any individual or community agency, whether that individual is specifically named or if the comment is written in such a way that the viewing public can easily infer who the commenter is referring to. I High Plains reserves the right to block Facebook users from its page if an individual continually violates this social media commenting policy. High Plains has a team of staff members with access to our social media profiles. These accounts are monitored throughout the day. Comments meeting the above criteria will be hidden as soon as possible.

Today is the International Day of Charity - a day to celebrate the impact of community giving. If you're looking to make a gift that will have a real, lasting and life-saving impact, please consider a tax-deductible donation to our Crisis Intervention Center. This facility will serve adults experiencing mental health or substance use crises, and they will never receive a bill for treatment.

We are building hope and resilience in our Northwest Kansas communities: One brick, one gift, one step at a time. We hope you'll partner with us.

In honor of Su***de Prevention Month, let's see if we can raise at least $1,000 to support the new Crisis Intervention Center opening later this year. The CIC will provide 24/7 access to emergency psychiatric care, filling the gap with an urgently needed regional service and improving health outcomes.

Your support means so much to us, and every dollar makes a difference. Please consider pitching in to help with this life-saving mission.

🌟 Heartland Grant Recipient 🌟

High Plains Mental Health Center was awarded a grant of $7,500 to purchase three specialized sobering chairs — essential equipment for the launch of a new detoxification program in in the region for adults who are experiencing a substance use-related crisis.

This program will be just one key component of High Plains’ Crisis Intervention Center (CIC) in downtown Hays (at the former Hadley hospital). The CIC will offer 22 beds for both voluntary and involuntary admissions, including sobering beds.

🚨 Currently, there is no regional facility equipped for safe sobering — forcing many individuals into county jails or extended ER stays, especially since state hospitals won’t admit patients who are under the influence. This grant helps address a critical gap in the system.

At least 75 individuals each year are expected to benefit from social detox services at the CIC, which will serve more than 800 patients annually from across a 30-county region. Patients will be monitored by medical staff and may transition into continued mental health treatment, hospitalization, or outpatient recovery care.

The need is clear: local law enforcement, hospitals, families, and civic leaders have long advocated for a facility like this—one that meets people where they are, and gets them help when they need it most. The CIC is expected to relieve pressure on jails and ERs, create 50 new jobs, and bring life-saving services to underserved Kansans.

At Heartland, every grant is reviewed by local committees to reflect the unique priorities of each community. Your support of our county Legacy Funds during Match Month—or any time—helps us keep saying "yes" to projects like this.

✨ One grant. Big impact.

Today is International Drug Overdose Awareness Day. In the United States, about 213 people die every day from drug overdose. Many of these deaths are attributed to fentanyl, an odorless, tasteless opioid often mixed with other street drugs. When it's fentanyl, one pill can kill.

Overdoses are preventable with the right information and right tools, such as Naloxone. To learn more about how to obtain Naloxone and prevent overdose, visit dccca.org.
