Happy April Fools’ Day! 😄

We thought about making a big announcement today… but decided we’d stick to what we do best instead by bringing smiles, laughter, and a little fun to the day. No tricks here, just a reminder to enjoy the moment and maybe keep an eye out for a few playful surprises 👀✨

🤩🎉 Hays Lions Club supports DSNWK with grant

Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas (DSNWK) is excited to announce that they have received a $1,000.00 grant award from the Hays Lions Club to benefit its Medical Fund for the people they serve who have developmental disabilities.

This Fund assists individuals with the cost of medical items and care that are not covered by Medicaid, items such as eye glasses and other vision needs. “As the Lions Club focuses on sight programs and eye care, this grant award will help improve the vision care needs of the people we serve and in turn their quality of life and independence, " states Jerry Michaud DSNWK President.

DSNWK would like to thank the Hays Lions Club for their continuous support of people with developmental disabilities.

🎉🤩 PDC Receives Grant from Second Century Fund

Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas (DSNWK) is pleased to announce a grant award of $700.00 from the Second Century Fund for the purchase of an ice machine for its Community Room at Prairie Developmental Center (PDC) in Atwood.

PDC’s Community Room functions as a space daily for instruction and classes for its College for Living program. It is also a heavily utilized space for various organizations throughout the Atwood community. Clubs, groups and families use the kitchen area to prepare meals and serve participants and guests. The ice maker will allow these groups to have ice for drinks without having to bring it in from the outside.

“Having an ice maker in the kitchen at PDC will make the community room a more attractive facility for the community, states Jerry Michaud, DSNWK President. “It gives our staff and community members something practical, one less thing to worry about when setting up for their function.”

Good luck to the Hays High Indians Girls Basketball as they compete in the Kansas State High School Basketball State Tournament today! 🏀

We love cheering on our hometown team whenever we can, and getting to attend games is always a highlight for our individuals. Nothing beats the energy of the crowd, a great game, and a fun photo with the cheer squad!

What a great opportunity for Jerry and Megan to spread the word about what we do and have to offer. Thank you for doing what you do for DSNWK and Custom Creations!

A few weeks ago, we went to the capital to share our story! DSNWK and Custom Creations were invited to present at the Kansas Legislative Event for Advocacy in Faith (L.E.A.F.) in Topeka, KS presented by the United Women in Faith Great Plains Conference. This is an ecumenical event, for people of all faiths, that educates and engages members on issues that are being addressed within the state legislatures.
The theme this year was "Hope". DSNWK and Custom Creations provides hope for persons served to live a life of purpose. Custom Creations is more than a retail space; we connect and create community while prompting awareness and inclusion for our artists and showcase their incredible abilities.

Hello! My name is Courtney Brungardt and I am an Office Assistant/Working Supervisor at Employment Connections in Hays. I have been with DSNWK for seven years.

I take calls and distribute messages, greet & help customers, order supplies for our office and janitorial crews, keep documents updated, and other general clerical duties. I also take a work crew to Enersys twice a week where we clean respirators.

I enjoy bantering with my coworkers and the individuals we serve. I truly enjoy everyone I work with which makes it really easy to come to work. I also like seeing the Custom Creations furniture before and after it’s redone. It’s insane how they give pieces a whole new life.

I am 29 years old and graduated from Otis-Bison High School in 2015. I moved to Hays for college and worked at Dillon’s where I met my now husband, Bryan. We have a two-year old son, Rylan who is our whole world. We also have a maltese/yorkie mix named Daisy. I don’t have a big family but my husband’s more than makes up for it. Our nieces and nephews' activities and ballgames keep us busy.

I enjoy reading, listening to audiobooks or podcasts and gaming. I am also currently learning to crochet. I recently made a potholder.
