Please join us in giving a warm Hayward welcome to our visitors!

We’re honored to welcome Ms. Pham Hoang Anh and Mr. Ho Anh Dung to Tamarack Health as they begin their month-long observation experience. These students traveled from Vietnam to learn from our team and shadow primary care physicians. They’ll also explore OB, Surgery, and the Emergency Department. Joining them on their first day are international colleagues from Vietnam’s Global Engagement Division — Nguyễn Thị Kiều Trinh, Bích Bùi Thị Ngọc, and Dr. Chan — along with Carol Mitchell, International Relations Consultant from Hayward, and her husband Dan.

Our team is excited to share our work and culture, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to learn from one another through this global connection.

Did you know? More than 80% of infants in the U.S. start out breastfeeding—but by 6 months, only about 25% are exclusively breastfed. While the benefits of breastfeeding are clear, many families still face barriers to continuing.

From lack of support at work or in public spaces, to medical or emotional challenges, the journey isn’t always easy. Tamarack Health is committed to offering supportive resources like lactation education, public breastfeeding rooms, and breast milk donation opportunities.

Let’s build a community that uplifts and empowers every breastfeeding family.

Tamarack Health is proud to announce that Nichole Marleau and William Carli are the recipients of the North Star Employee Excellence Award, recognizing their outstanding commitment to patient care and service.

In Hayward, Nichole was nominated by a grateful parent who explained how Nichole provided physical therapy care with compassion and understanding far above expectations.

"She delivered her knowledge in such an empowering way as a patient, especially with such a touchy subject; never once did I feel shame or embarrassed. I felt heard, I felt valued and validated, I felt comfortable, and I knew I was in such good hands for my care. Nichole was truly such a blessing to my recovery.”

In Ashland, William was nominated by a patient undergoing a routine vision test. When Will noticed something a little off, he did some extra tests, brought in the doctors, and it was discovered that the patient had a macular hole.

“He had an idea that something was really wrong by the results of the vision test. He made sure I knew he was not a doctor, but had enough experience to know that this needed to be brought to the doctor’s attention. I will be having surgery to repair the hole and hopefully restore my vision. I want to thank Will for taking the time to do the extra tests that were needed to find the problem.”

Your donation makes a difference! Not every baby has access to their mother’s milk, but thanks to the generosity of donors, they can still receive the nutrition they need.

Tamarack Health is proud to serve as a milk depot in partnership with Mothers’ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes. If you're a breastfeeding mom with extra milk to give, consider donating. Your gift can help nourish premature and fragile infants in their most critical days.

Drop-off is easy at our Ashland or Hayward Family Birthplace locations. Learn more about getting screened for donation by visiting our website: https://www.tamarackhealth.org/services/family-birthplace-labor-and-delivery/breast-milk-donation/

Finding a quiet, private space to nurse or pump can be challenging—especially when you're on the go. Tamarack Health offers dedicated breastfeeding rooms at both our Ashland and Hayward Medical Centers.

Clean, cozy, and easy to access, these spaces are designed with your comfort and privacy in mind. Because supporting moms means meeting them where they are—literally and emotionally.

• In 2023, about 48% of babies under 6 months were fed only breast milk. This is a 10% rise in ten years.
• The world is getting closer to the goal of the World Health Assembly, which aims for at least 50% of infants to be breastfed exclusively by 2025.
• However, there are still challenges. Many mothers need more support to follow good breastfeeding practices.

Breastfeeding is one of the most powerful ways we can support the health of both moms and babies. It provides ideal nutrition, builds strong immune systems, and helps establish an unbreakable bond between parent and child.

• Most infants born in the U.S. (83.2%) begin receiving some breast milk.
• At 1 month, 78.6% of infants receive breast milk.
• However, rates decline over time: at 6 months, 55.8% of infants receive breast milk, and only 24.9% are exclusively breastfed.
• These rates fall short of the recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the 2020–2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which recommend exclusive breastfeeding for about the first 6 months.

Tamarack Health is proud to support and celebrate every breastfeeding journey!
