DSPS Chabot College DSPS: (ACE) welcomes students with disabilities with dedicated support on their educational journey.

DSPS at Chabot College serves the needs of students with a variety of disabilities, including physical, communicative, psychological, and/or learning disabilities. The specialized counseling staff provides academic, career, personal and crisis counseling, and offers a variety of Psychology Counseling courses to assist students with successful transition to and beyond college. They provide academic assessment, Student Educational Plans, and referrals for diagnostic evaluations, in addition to help meeting Department of Rehabilitation requirements.

We’re excited to share updates about how the district is helping students prepare for winter intersession and to experience the new self-service registration system (SSB9). Priority registration begins for some students as early as November 11, 2025—their first opportunity to enroll in winter and spring courses.

Dr. melissa leal
Dr. Melissa Leal is an enrolled member and Tribal Councilperson of the Ohlone/Costanoan Esselen Nation. She earned her Ph.D. In Native American Studies from the University of California, Davis. She is currently a Professor and Ethnic Studies Department Chair at Sierra College. Her research and academic work focuses on contemporary film, music, dance and other performance arts in indigenous communities. She has worked with tribes and tribal youth for more than 20 years focusing on education, empowerment, and language revitalization.

Paid Internship Program
for Adults with Disabilities
Castro Valley Adult & Career Education offers a Paid Internship Program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities each school year. Interns will gain paid work experience at local businesses and organizations matched to their interests and skills. This program provides vocational training and education to prepare individuals for employment after the nine-month internship program.
The 2025-26 school year applications are due April 4, 2025.
Eligibility Requirements
Regional Center consumer
Over 22 years of age or over 18 with a high school diploma or equivalent Eligible to receive Dept. of Rehab. services
Eligible to work
Committed to a nine-month program (July - May)
Motivated to learn skills and be employed
Able to work in the community with 1:4 support

Disabled Students Programs and Services of Chabot College seeks to make its programs and services available to individuals with a physical, communicative, psychological, or learning disability. Disabled Students Programs and Services provides opportunities for individuals to achieve through education a richer and more effective life. Our goal is to encourage students with a disability to become independent and assertive participants in their own educational process. Accessibility in classes, facilities, extracurricular activities and in all student support services is our ultimate objective.
