We are pleased to announce the release of our new Hyaluronidase Inhibitor Screening Assay Kit (DIHY-100)!

HYALURONIDASES are a family of enzymes that catalyze the degradation of the glycosaminoglycan, hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is one of the major constituents of the extracellular matrix in organisms where it contributes to both cell proliferation and migration. The role of hyaluronidases in breaking down this key factor in cell proliferation makes them a possible target for cancer treatment. One hypothesis is that increased hyaluronidase may help prevent tumor invasion by breaking down the extracellular matrix needed for tumor expansion. Conversely, decreasing hyaluronidase activity might prevent metastasis by stopping cancer cells from escaping primary tumor masses. The study to determine hyaluronidases’ exact role in cancer pathology is still ongoing.

BioAssay Systems' Hyaluronidase Inhibitor Screening Assay Kit uses a two step turbidimetric reaction to measure hyaluronidase activity by the amount of hyaluronic acid that is hydrolyzed. A stop reagent halts the enzymatic reaction and forms turbidity with any residual hyaluronic acid in the well. The decrease in turbidity at 600 nm is directly proportional to hyaluronidase activity in the sample.

We are happy to belatedly announce the release of our new Ferric Reduction Antioxidant Potential (FRAP) Assay Kit (DFRAP-100)!

FERRIC REDUCTION ANTIOXIDANT POTENTIAL (FRAP) is a measure of antioxidant capacity quantified by the antioxidant?s potential to reduce ferric iron (III) to ferrous iron (II). Antioxidants protect cells from damage by reactive oxygen species that are produced by oxidation reactions. As oxidative stress contributes to the development of many diseases including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and neurodegeneration, the use of antioxidants in pharmacology is intensively studied. Antioxidants are also widely used as dietary supplements and as preservatives in a wide range of products such as food, cosmetics, rubber and gasoline.

Simple, direct and high-throughput assays for antioxidant capacity find wide applications in research, food industry and drug discovery. BioAssay Systems' improved assay measures antioxidant potential in which Fe3+ is reduced by antioxidant to Fe2+. The resulting Fe2+ specifically forms a colored complex with a chromogen. The color intensity at 590 nm is proportional to FRAP in the sample.

We are happy to announce the release of our new D-Amino Acid Assay Kit! (EDAA-100)

D-AMINO-ACIDS are not as widespread as their enantiomeric counterparts in proteins but they can be found in organisms ranging from bacteria (cell walls and antibiotics) to mammals (central nervous systems). The presence of D-amino acids in food is also of considerable interest. Racemization of L-amino acids during food processing may affect food quality and nutritional value.

BioAssay Systems' D-amino acid assay uses an enzyme-catalyzed oxidation of D-amino acids to convert a dye into a colored and fluorescent form. The absorbance at 570 nm or fluorescence intensity at λex/em = 530/585 nm is directly proportional to the D-amino acid concentration in the sample.

We are happy to announce the release of our new Boron Assay Kit! (DBOR-100)

BORON is an essential micronutrient in plants and is involved in maintaining robust cell walls, cell membranes, and reproductive tissues. Although boron is common in the soil in its natural state as a borate mineral, the amount of boron available to plants is actually quite small. As a result, boron deficiency is the second most common micronutrient deficiency among crop plants. In order to keep plant boron levels in a healthy range, supplementation to the soil via fertilizers and additives is often required. If not regulated, a lack of or excess of boron may significantly lower crop yield. In the biotech industry, sodium borohydride is commonly used to conjugate antibodies and typically needs to be removed from the final product, especially for therapeutic antibodies.

BioAssay Systems' boron detection kit provides a convenient and reliable means to measure boron. In the assay borate complexes with azomethine-H to create a colored compound that can be measured at 420 nm. This assay can be used with a variety of samples and is simple, sensitive, and adaptable to high-throughput screening.

We are happy to announce the release of our new Biotin Assay Kit! (DBIO-100)

BIOTIN , or Vitamin B7, is a water soluble vitamin involved in metabolism, cell growth, and protein synthesis. It is a cofactor to multiple carboxylases necessary for metabolizing fatty acids, glucose, and amino acids. Biotin is found in a wide range of foods and is often taken as a dietary supplement. In the biotechnology industry, biotin is commonly conjugated to proteins in a process called biotinylation. These biotinylated proteins can then be specifically selected using streptavidin and/or avidin's strong affinity for biotin in biochemical assays such as ELISAs.

BioAssay Systems' Biotin Assay Kit is based on avidin's weak affinity for 4'-hydroxyazobenzene-2-carboxylic acid (HABA) and strong affinity for biotin. The avidin-HABA complex reagent has an absorbance at 500nm. When the colored avidin-HABA reagent is introduced to biotin, the biotin binds to avidin, displacing the HABA and causing a decrease in absorbance. The decrease in absorbance at 500nm is directly proportional to the biotin in the sample.

We are happy to announce the release of our new L-Amino Acid Assay Kit! (ELAA-100)

L-AMINO-ACIDS are the building blocks of proteins in biology. Almost all of the common 20 amino acids exist as the L-enantiomer.
BioAssay Systems' L-amino acid assay uses an enzyme-catalyzed oxidation of Lamino acids to convert a dye into a colored and fluorescent form. The absorbance at 570 nm or fluorescence intensity at λex/em = 530/585 nm is directly proportional to the L-amino acid concentration in the sample.

We are happy to announce the release of our new Oxalate Quick Test Strips!

OXALATE, or Oxalic Acid, is a metabolic breakdown product of the Kreb's Cycle in eukaryotes and the glyoxylate cycle in other microorganisms. Typically present in the urine of humans and other mammals, oxalate concentration can be used as a measure of kidney function. A high level of oxalate is an indicator for kidney stones, which are primarily made of the insoluble salt calcium oxalate. Measuring oxalate is more accurate than measuring calcium as a marker for kidney stones because calcium is excreted at high concentrations even in normal urine.

BioAssay Systems' QuantiQuik™ Oxalate Quick Test Strips are based on the enzymatic oxidation of oxalate coupled with a color reaction in one step. The intensity of product color is directly proportional to the oxalate concentration in the sample.

We are happy to announce the release of our new Albumin Quick Test Strips!

ALBUMIN is the most abundant plasma protein in humans. Albumin plays many important physiological roles, including maintenance of colloid osmotic pressure and binding of key substances such as long-chain fatty acids, bile acids, bilirubin, haematin, calcium, and magnesium. Serum albumin is a reliable prognostic indicator for liver disease, nephritic syndrome, malnutrition, protein-losing enteropathies, as well as morbidity and mortality. In addition, elevated levels of serum albumin are associated with dehydration. Detection of albumin in urine is also crucial for diagnosis of patients with albuminuria disease.

BioAssay Systems' QuantiQuik™ Albumin Test Strips are based on the immobilization of an albumin sensitive chromagen onto a pad. Albumin will react with the chromagen and produce a colored product. The intensity of the product color is directly proportional to the albumin concentration in the sample. The QuantiQuik™ Albumin Test strips are a rapid and inexpensive method for semi-quantitative determination of albumin that does not require sophisticated laboratory instruments.
