Every month, we take a moment to shine a light on those who make our home a better place - not just through their actions, but through the heart they put into everything they do. This month, we are proud to recognize the "Heroes of Our Home": Brooke McElfresh and Lucy Dennis

Brooke works in our Medical Records Department and has been on our team in several roles for more than 10 years. Whether it’s offering a helping hand, going above and beyond, or simply brightening someone’s day with a warm smile, Brooke truly embodies the spirit of our home. Her dedication, compassion, and positivity do not go unnoticed.

From going above and beyond in their role to creating meaningful connections with residents and coworkers, Brooke represents what it means to be a team player. Her presence brings comfort and joy to those around them every day.

Resident Lucy continues to inspire us with her kindness, resilience, and participation in our community. Lucy has come out of her shell and makes each one of us smile every day. Whether it’s observing staff and their dreadful dance moves, spending time in leadership offices to get treats, participating in activities of choice offered in the day room or sharing her infectious laughter, Lucy makes this home feel even more like family.

We're thrilled to officially introduce Tess Engel as our new Executive Director! While Tess may be stepping into a new title, she's certainly no stranger to Hayward Health - having joined our team as the Director of Social Services back in February 2024, she’s been a driving force ever since.

With a bachelor's degree in recreation therapy, Tess's passion for enriching lives has been unwavering. She's been a Certified Activity Director since 2016 and now brings even more leadership expertise as a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator.

Tess’s journey in long-term care is nothing short of inspiring - her six years as a Case Manager at Inclusa laid the foundation for the kind of innovation and compassion she brings to our community. Her dedication shines not just in her professional work, but in the warmth she shares every day.

Outside of work, Tess wears many hats - she’s a devoted mom to Annabelle, who’s become a familiar, cheerful presence at Hayward Health, and a loving wife to DJ. Whether she’s out on the lake, teeing off on the golf course, or making memories with her family, Tess embraces life with joy and intention.

We’re beyond excited for this next chapter with Tess at the helm. Her leadership promises to guide our building toward excellence - and we’re confident she’ll help Hayward Health shine as the best in the region.

Hayward Health Services extends its heartfelt thanks to Connor, pictured in the front, for serving as interim Executive Director, as today is his last day.

Your genuine smile, thoughtful conversations with residents, and warm connection with staff brought smiles to those around you. The heart you brought to Hayward Health will never be forgotten.

We celebrated National Gorgeous Grandma Day by treating our residents to makeovers! They got their hair and makep done at our salon, and then walked the red carpet. Thank you to Activities Director Lee Ann Kritch for serving as our MC and to Corky for making the beautiful hats! The ladies had a wonderful time getting all dolled up and strutting their stuff. 😍💄👠👑

At Hayward Health Services, we believe in giving back to the heroes who keep our community safe.

Our leadership team was proud to put together a special donation cooler for this year's Sawyer County Back the Blue Foundation Fundraiser, being held on July 19. With love and gratitude, we created a cooler filled with all things outdoors and camping, and to show our appreciation for our local law enforcement officers.

Thank you to all who serve and protect. We're proud to stand behind you.

We are proud to honor Ruth Newman and Lisa Lehrke as “Heroes of our Home” for the month of June.

We proudly celebrate Ruth! Not just for her cheerful spirit, but for the way her smile brightens the room. Whether sharing a story from the years of living in our community, offering a comforting word to a neighbor, saying “good morning,” or being social during Friday’s Happy Hour, Ruth brings light wherever she goes.

Thank you Ruth for being the heart of our community. Your warmth and wit remind us every day that this is more than just a place to live - it’s a place to belong.

Every great community runs on care, compassion, and a sprinkle of magic - and CNA Lisa brings all three in abundance!

From the moment she clocks in, Lisa is a force of calm and kindness, tackling each task with grace and grit. Whether juggling a full schedule, solving last-minute challenges with a smile, or simply making someone’s day brighter with a kind word, she redefines what it means to “go the extra mile.”

But what really sets Lisa apart is her heart. It’s in the way she notices when someone needs a little help or a little hope - and answers with strength and loving care. Thank you Lisa for being the glue, the go-getter, and the kind soul we’re so lucky to have on our team.
