Today is World Hand Hygiene Day!

Handwashing with soap could protect about 1 out of every 3 young children who get sick with diarrhea, and almost 1 out of 5 young children with respiratory infections like pneumonia.
When washing your hands with soap and water, follow these steps:
1. Wet your hands with warm running water.
2. Add soap, then rub your hands together. Do this away from the running water for at least 20 seconds, being careful not to wash the lather away. Wash the front and back of your hands, as well as between your fingers and under your nails.
3. Rinse your hands well under running water.
4. Dry your hands thoroughly with a clean towel.

Youth gardens make a big impact on kids.

They help children explore, create, and build healthy habits through hands-on experiences. For teachers, especially early childhood educators, this isn’t just gardening. Kids can taste, explore, and learn where their food comes from, building connections to what they eat.

Visit https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/physical-activity/childcare.htm for more information, including the Got Veggies? Toolkit–ECE Edition and other resources to help kids learn—from seed to harvest—about their food.

Happy Arbor Day!
Trees aren’t just beautiful; they are also our partners in health. They reduce air and water pollution, provide shade, make neighborhoods quieter, and absorb excess storm water to help keep us safe from floods.

We could all use more trees; learn how to plant them: https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/TreePlanting
