The UK Center of Excellence in Rural Health is now accepting applications for the Healthcare Worker Loan Relief Program of the Commonwealth (HWLRPC) from April 1, 2023 through April 30, 2023! The HWLRPC is a new funding opportunity, administered by the UK Center of Excellence in Rural Health, designed to increase recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals to practice in underserved areas of Kentucky.

The UK Center of Excellence in Rural Health focuses on rural health disparities across the Commonwealth. One rural health disparity that we face in the Commonwealth is poor oral health. There is a shortage of dental health professionals available within many areas, throughout the state. The importance of oral health is something that is underestimated across the nation. Eighty percent of Americans are unaware of the issues that can arise from not maintaining good oral health or the various diseases that can develop as a result of poor oral health. The state of Kentucky is at the lower end of the national health ranking scale, particularly rural Kentucky.

The HWLRPC wants to address this issue and promote recruitment and retention within oral healthcare by making a special call for dental health professionals to apply for this round of funding. All other healthcare professionals are also encouraged to apply as well, due to the shortages faced within all health workforce professionals.
