As the holidays twinkle in our eastern Kentucky hills, we know they can also stir feelings of loneliness, missing loved ones, quiet homes, or that ache for connection. But remember, you are not alone in this; many feel it too, and there are gentle ways to cope and find warmth. Here are a few tips:
- Reach out: Call a friend, join a local gathering, or connect online—small talks can spark big comfort.
- Nurture yourself: Cozy up with a favorite book, take a peaceful walk, or try a simple mindfulness breath to center your heart.
- Give back: Volunteer at a community event or food pantry; helping others often lifts your own spirits.
- Seek support: If the loneliness feels heavy, talk to someone who understands.

KRCC is here with compassionate therapy, crisis care, and wellness resources to help you navigate these moments. Call our 24/7 Crisis Line at 1-800-262-7491 or dial 988 anytime. You're worthy of joy this season, let's embrace it together. What's one way you're coping with holiday feelings? 🌄💙

Here’s your healing practice for the weekend, mindfulness! Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present in the moment, without judgment, to reduce stress, improve focus, and enhance overall well-being. It's accessible to anyone and can be used in daily life through simple techniques.

Here are some effective ones to explore, starting with beginners in mind:

1. Deep Breathing: Sit comfortably and inhale through your nose for a count of 4, hold for 1 second, then exhale through your mouth for a count of 5. This helps calm the mind and reduce anxiety.

2. Body Scan: Lie down or sit, and mentally scan your body from toes to head, noticing any tension and releasing it with each breath. It's great for relaxation and awareness.

3. Mindful Eating: Choose a small snack and eat it slowly, savoring the texture, taste, and smell without distractions. This fosters gratitude and presence.

4. Mindful Walking: Take a stroll, focusing on each step, the feel of the ground, and your surroundings. It's an easy way to combine movement with mindfulness.

5. Counting Exercise: Inhale and exhale while counting backward from 10, or count objects around you. This grounds you in the present and interrupts racing thoughts.

6. Guided Imagery: Close your eyes and visualize a peaceful scene, like a beach or forest, engaging all senses. It promotes relaxation and stress relief.

7. Mindful Coloring or Drawing: Grab a coloring book or doodle freely, focusing on the colors and strokes. It's creative and calming, especially for beginners.

Start with 5-10 minutes a day, and build from there. If mindfulness feels overwhelming, consider apps like Calm or guided sessions. Consistency is key—try one technique today and see how it shifts your day!

At KRCC, we use these in our outpatient therapy and wellness centers to help you build resilience—whether through group sessions or personalized plans.

If you'd like guidance or to integrate mindfulness into your care, call our 24/7 Crisis Line at 1-800-262-7491 or visit krcccares.com for our Guide to Services. You're not alone; let's explore mindfulness together. What's one technique you'll try today?🌿

Our Story

Today. Tomorrow. Always. When you think you're alone, we'll be there.

Our lives are like mountain roads – they twist and turn, and sometimes, they don’t take you where you want to go. But like us, you need to know that where you end up is not where you have to stay. When all seems lost, you are not alone and we can help you find your way. For fifty years, our light has burned brightly, and we’ve taken the hands of countless people in the darkest of times and given them the hope and help they’ve needed. Things can get better. You can get well. We care about you, and the story of your life is important to us. Now, it’s time for you to care about you. Recovery happens, and it starts at KRCC.

Our Mission Kentucky River Community Care, Inc., (KRCC) is a private, nonprofit Community Mental Health Center dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of the people of our region. We help individuals and families in twelve counties in eastern Kentucky by providing mental health, developmental disabilities, substance abuse, and trauma services. KRCC seeks to promote public safety, boost economic wellbeing, and improve community and individual quality of life.

For over 50 years, KRCC has been addressing health issues by identifying needs, bringing people together, forming community partnerships, identifying resources to fund solutions, and seeking changes in the overall health environment. KRCC has a team of over 750 experienced and caring service providers in over 60 operating sites across twelve counties.
