Evelyn Lucille Groom Petrus, 97, of Carlisle, Arkansas passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, in Houston, TX.

A woman of profound faith and boundless generosity, Evelyn was the heart of every gathering. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Philip; her son, Phil; and her grandson, Mitch. Jon Burgess Beckwith, age 61, of Hazen, Arkansas, passed away on April 1, 2026.
Born on August 17, 1964, Jon was the son of Betty Pearl and Sam Beckwith and Lyle Reynolds. He spent his early years in Tollville, his family’s namesake community, before later moving to Pine Bluff where he graduated from Watson Chapel High School earning the title of All-State Linebacker. Jon went on to meet the love of his life, Carrie Carter. The two were married on June 11, 1988, and returned to the family farm, where Jon took the reins of the farming operation. Together, they welcomed two sons, Blake and Logan.

During the winter months, Jon spent his days guiding hunters through Whistling Wings Guiding Service, which he founded, making sure everyone had a good time. Jon’s greatest joys included hunting, fishing, his two boys, calling the Hogs, and later in life being known as “Paw Hog” to his two cherished grandsons, Graham and Baker.

Jon loved the Lord deeply, devoted himself to studying the Bible, and shared his testimony many times, always happy to share his faith and love for the Lord with others. He was also known for his musical talents and his love for the electric guitar, as well as his routine appearances in the popular Hee Haw shows held in Hazen. He almost made it big as a member of W***y Bondolly and the 5 Leaver Band, — a chapter of life he remembered with great joy and laughter.

Jon never met a stranger and had a heart as big as his smile, something reflected in the many friendships he built throughout his life. To know Jon was to love him, and you could be certain he was always rooting for the Arkansas Razorbacks.

John Timothy Palsa, (known to all as Tim, and to his girls as Big Daddy) age 86, of Carlisle, passed away Tuesday March 31, 2026. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carlisle and a 32nd Degree Mason; Lifetime Member in Dumas and a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his son John Leslie Palsa, his parents John Edward Palsa and Carra Palsa Mitchell, his sister Joy Palsa Mason and brother in law Wm. A. Mason, Jr., and his brother James Edward Palsa. Tim was born January 27, 1940 in Carlisle, Arkansas. He graduated from Dumas High School and attended A&M at Monticello(now UAM) on a football scholarship before he was activated into the Army during the Berlin Crisis. Upon his return, instead of finishing his last year of college he pursued one of the two loves of his life. One was farming and that December of 1962 he finally convinced the greatest love of his life to marry him, Sue. Nine years later (and anyone who knows him would attest to this) his new favorite person would make her grand entrance into this world, his daughter, Melanie. Almost ten years later, his partner in crime who would make every footstep he made ask a steward of the land joined his family, his son John Leslie. He started his farming career in Desha County with his dad and brother Jim. Tim was a lifelong and faithful steward of the land farming first in the Delta of Dumas where he was known for his exceptional rice crops, along with cotton and soybeans and later in Carlisle where he farmed rice, soybeans and wheat. He instilled in his family the value that “they aren’t making anymore land” so take care of it. Tim never met a stranger, would give you the shirt off his back, loved to travel world wide, loved a good equipment auction, classic cars, flying one of his many airplanes, driving a motorcycle, parachuting, and making his family happy. He was especially proud of his three beautiful granddaughters. One of his favorite sayings was “I always get the last word in with Miss Sue! I say, "Yes ma’am!” He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sue Palsa, his daughter Melanie Palsa of Carlisle, his three granddaughters, Madeleine Palsa Dilley (Allen) of Olive Branch, MS, Olivia and Nina Catherine Brown of Starkville, MS, his grandchildren in love, Brittany Swears Ray (Eric) and Caleb Swears (Madi), of Carlisle, his faithful friend and companion of 11 years Terry Norton and his caregiver of five years, Ranae Ramsey both of Carlisle. He is also survived by a host of relatives and friends worldwide.
Services for Tim will be Friday, April 3, 2026 with visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M.; Funeral services will begin at 2:00 P.M. following the visitation and will be held at the First Methodist Church in Carlisle, Arkansas. Interment will be in the Carlisle Cemetery.

Lillian Ruth Harden, 91, of Biscoe, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, she was born on February 10, 1935,...
03/04/2026

Lillian Ruth Harden, 91, of Biscoe, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, she was born on February 10, 1935, in Miller, Oklahoma, to A.T. and Lucy Lee. From those early years, she learned the values that would guide her life—hard work, devotion to family, and resilience through every season. Those values shaped the woman we knew and loved so deeply.

In 1954, she married the love of her life, Charlie Harden. Together, as lifelong members of the Biscoe Church of Christ, they built a home rooted in commitment, faith in one another, and enduring love. Though she is now reunited with Charlie, their bond lives on through the family they raised and the memories they created. Lillian is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charlie Harden; her sisters, Bertha Montgomery, Ruby Petty, and Edith Eager; and her brothers, Thomas Lee, Avery Lee, and Robert Lee.

Our mom was the heart of our family. She wore many titles—wife, sister, mother—but she lived each one with grace and selflessness.

She is survived by her sister, Rosemary Edge; her brother, Andy Lee; her daughter, Robin Hurst (Ricky); her sons, Charles Harden and Mark Harden; and by a host of grandchildren, great‑grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom were deeply loved and cherished by her.

To us, she was more than a mother. She was a steady presence, a source of comfort, and an example of unconditional love. Her strength didn’t need to be loud to be powerful. It showed in the way she cared for others, the way she endured loss, and the way she always put family first. She taught us what it means to show up, to stay grounded, and to love without reservation. Mom’s life reminds us that the greatest impact often comes not from grand gestures, but from everyday kindness, patience, and devotion. Her love continues to live on—in the stories we tell, the values we carry forward, and the bonds that hold our family together. While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a life well lived. We are better because she was our mother. We are stronger because of her example. And we will carry her love with us always.

The family gives special thanks to The Crossing at Riverside and LifeTouch Health of Searcy for the respectful care, and unwavering commitment to our Mom and Dad these last few years.

Rest peacefully, Mom. You are deeply loved, and you will never be forgotten.

Services for Lillian will be Saturday, March 7, 2026 with a Visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M. until 1:45 P.M. at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen, Arkansas; a graveside service will follow beginning at 2:00 P.M. at the Biscoe Cemetery in Biscoe, Arkansas.

Arrangements are entrusted with Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen, Arkansas.
