                                            Well Done, Come Home
It is a joy to be a chiropractor in a busy office for 45 years this October. While many doctors I talk to over the years get burn out by insurance companies not paying, staff not getting along, patients who are always looking for better results, and the list goes on, but to me, I point them in the direction of the Master Counselor.
You see, most of my life I listen to people’s complaints about their body, their spouse, their kids, their employer, their employee, politics, and any burden they carry. My role is to be a sponge, to listen to and absorb their pain; that is part of the healing that anybody can offer their friend.
Often, people will say something like, “this girl I work with makes me do all the work, I hate her!” I listen but I gently turn it around. I tell her that I love work because I don’t work for insurance companies, or even for my patients. I am told in the good Book that “do all things unto the Lord.” So my main daily goal, is to ask myself “What would Jesus do in this situation?” and it helps me to overcome my human weakness and let my spiritual love shine.
In this instance, the patient will say to me, “You’re right. I shouldn’t hate my coworker. I will do what Jesus will do. I will love her and work hard and not compare my work to hers. Ya know, that is why I love coming here!” I walk out of that room thinking, “Thank you Lord, use me to point others towards you.”
When you see hundreds of patients every week, you sit back and realize that everybody has trials and burdens. Some cope with them better than others. The strong ones I remind them that we are warriors, in a daily battle, and can never let our guard down. To the patients who are overcome by anger, depression, anxiety, worry, or guilt and shame, I remind them how much God loves them. That He made them special. He has a plan for them. They have to draw close to God to find His path for their life. Expect life to be constantly hard and unfair but the option is to draw closer to God for strength.
In the final analysis, this is what I see. People are full of stress. We worry about things out of our control. If we would just turn off our phones and tv’s and walk in nature to communicate with God. Then our better spiritual side will overcome our weaker human side.
And don’t worry about leaving a legacy. Your money will fade away, and so will all that you possess. Focus your energy on doing to others what God calls you to do one day at a time, overcoming trials and pains of life. Don’t let your brain get addicted to the dopamine release that social media will cause. Especially with AI expanding.
So on that day, your last day, to live on this Earth, you will hear the Lord say, “Well done, come home, my fine servant.” That is my prayer for you!
