Kathleen "Kate" Conahan, 60, Hazleton, passed away quietly Saturday afternoon.

A lifelong Southsider, she will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister and aunt. Since 1975, she worked at St. Gabriel's Parish and served for years as the parish office manager.

Kate will be missed by the many lives she touched over the years. She is described by the many who knew her as having a heart of gold, who would give you the shirt off her back. She was truly selfless. Her infectious laugh and smile leaves a lasting impression on each of us. Kate loved to cook and her Sunday brunches at home were legendary. She had a passion for gardening and loved flowers.

In many ways, Kate was a very private person too and she valued her independence. Never one for cameras or having her picture taken, Kate would be surprised by the many celebrations of her life happening among groups of friends, who are getting together on social video conferences to reminisce about their time with her.

She was a member of St. Gabriel's Church-Annunciation Parish, Hazleton, and Hazleton Avenues Rehabilitation Partners. Kate's organized group trips to Ireland for St. Gabriel's Parish are still remembered by everyone who went. In the words of her pastor, Kate's optimism was contagious in a sea of negativity.

The daughter of Alice M. (McNally) and the late John E. Conahan, she was born in Hazleton on Feb. 13, 1960, and graduated from Bishop Hafey High School and Lackawanna Junior College.

Her brother, Kevin Conahan, passed away in April 2008.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are a brother, Michael and his wife, Maureen, Clarks Summit; sister, Patricia and her husband, Robert McGeehan, Bethlehem; sister, Ann and her husband, Peter Fagan, Conyngham; sister, Mary and her husband, Michael Ziegler, Drums; brother, John and his wife, Tana, Bethlehem; sister, Colleen Conahan, Beaver Meadows; sister, Alice Conahan, Hazleton; and brother, Bryan Conahan, Chesapeake, Va.

Kate is also survived by many nieces and nephews, Patrick, Hannah, Brendan, Colan, Caitlin, Katie, Sarah, Matthew, Jackie, Alyssa, Chloe, John, Zach, Amanda, Kevin, Michael and Bridget.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date.

Donations in Kate's name may be made to Catholic Social Services, Hazleton.

Dorie, as she was lovingly known by her many friends and family, was well-loved by all. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, a woman of unwavering faith, a companion/caretaker to many, a "jack of all trades," a fantastic cook and baker, a gardener, puzzle lover, a great story teller and an avid card player to name some of her many talents.

For over 60 years, the Card Club Girls met weekly. Their unbelievable adventures, the joyous memories and the tearful trials would fill novels. Over those 60 years, they have created a family few have the opportunity to experience.

She has blessed her family, both immediate and extended, with loving memories, adventures, vacations and special holidays. In Dorie's house, there was always room at the table for more and you never left hungry.

Dorie's love for life and appreciation of the little things like enjoying the first snowfall of the season, sunrises, sunsets, seeing the robins and hearing the geese return at spring and teaching children to blow bubbles from the shoots of chives will live on in the heart of all who knew and loved her. Say a prayer for Dorie and toast to a life well lived.

A Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated at a future date.

The following guidelines will allow us to continue to serve the needs of the families we are serving and to help protect our staff and our community.

We have been informed by the National Funeral Directors Association, Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, and the CDC of the following guidelines for funerals:

- as of now, it is still an acceptable practice to conduct viewings, services, burials, and cremations. We will be limiting in person viewings, visitations, and services to immediate family only. We do have the ability webcast services.
-we strongly suggest the 6 foot rule and do not recommend the touching of the deceased remains.
- those attending services should be mindful of washing and disinfecting your hands and refrain from handshakes, hugging, kissing, etc.
-we strongly suggest that anyone who is sick or has symptoms of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) should not attend any viewing, visitation, or services.

The funeral home staff will continue to sanitize and disinfect our facility using standard operating procedures. Because all of the facts are not known at this time, we will post any further updates that come available to us.
