This past weekend on the tennis court was a wake-up call for me.
I started feeling dizzy, drained, weak, and confused during play. When I finally got off the court, one of my teammates was experiencing similar symptoms and was vomiting. It was scary — and it reminded me how dangerous heat illness can become if we don’t recognize the warning signs early enough.
There is a huge difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and knowing the symptoms can truly save a life.
Heat Exhaustion Symptoms:
* Heavy sweating
* Dizziness
* Nausea or vomiting
* Muscle cramps
* Weakness or fatigue
* Headache
* Feeling faint or confused
Heat Stroke Symptoms (Medical Emergency):
* Confusion or disorientation
* Hot, dry skin or inability to sweat
* Rapid pulse
* Loss of consciousness
* Severe headache
* Vomiting
* Body temperature above 104°F
Heat stroke is life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention.
As athletes, parents, and active humans, we often push through discomfort. But sometimes our body is not asking us to push harder — it’s asking us to stop.
Please hydrate before you’re thirsty, replenish electrolytes, take breaks, and pay attention to your body in the heat. Recovery matters. Listening matters.
Also, a reminder that our Just Breathe Chiropractic Flash Sale ends this Thursday. Packages of 30 and 60 visits are currently 25% off and may be purchased using your HSA account.
