When you’ve experienced trauma, your brain’s alarm system (hello, amygdala) gets really good at spotting danger… even when it’s not actually there anymore. So while your thinking brain is saying “we’re okay,” your body is still responding like it’s not.
That disconnect can feel confusing. Frustrating. Even discouraging, but it doesn’t mean you’re broken. It means your brain learned how to protect you and it hasn’t unlearned it yet.
That’s where trauma therapy (like EMDR) comes in.
Not just talking through it… but helping your body feel safe again.
