Finch and Fen

Finch and Fen Creating small batch, hand crafted herbal medicinals from locally sourced plants. Building community around living in rhythm with the earth's cycles.

Creating space for others to gain confidence in their own bodies' ability to heal. Wild Earth Herbals has evolved from a small brick and mortar shop in downtown Spartanburg, SC, to an online store that provides traditionally prepared herbal wellness products all over the country. In addition to selling our handcrafted products, we teach private local classes and provide one on one wellness consultations-either via email and phone or in person. We provide affordable herbs and products, emphasizing healthy nutrition and lifestyle choices first. We support local and regional growers, farmers, artisans and plant communities. We believe ecological and economic sustainability is best accomplished through bio-regionalist practices. We honor the plants as teachers and uphold strict ethical standards regarding the harvest and use of herbs.

I don't know about you, but when I started learning about herbs, it was so very overwhelming and confusing. In my 20ish years I've realized a few things - you don't have to know everything (and it's impossible), you don't need fancy instagram worthy tools, and you can't treat herbs like modern medicine.

If you want to deconstruct the overwhelm, break a few myths, and bring herbalism into your daily routine and rhythm, watch my free webinar! I talk about 3 common mistakes we tend to make and how to create a less overwhelmed path to learning about herbs.

When I first began my herbal journey, I remember the endless tabs open on my computer. One article said one thing, another contradicted it, and before I knew it, I was more confused than when I started. Maybe you’ve been there too. It’s easy to get lost in the noise of “must-know” facts, int...

Yesterday morning began with a cup of tulsi tea on the porch, watching the mist drift over the fields. Later, Chance and I wandered into the woods to gather goldenrod, it was finally cool enough to wear a light sweater!
Back home, I opened all the windows (lüften, the German art of fresh air), washed with rosemary water, simmered citrus and star anise on the stove, and began planning out the rest of our day. Moving slowly, I could feel my nervous system shift, like the house and my body were both exhaling at once.
This is the start of my Autumn Reset, a seasonal practice of herbs, hygge, and nourishing foods to prepare for winter. Friday, I’ll be sharing the full Autumn Reset Guide, so you can follow along and weave these rhythms into your own days.
Until then, tell me, what’s one small ritual you use to welcome autumn?

The air is crisp and the leaves are turning. The gardens are quietly putting themselves to bed.
I’m making stew for dinner and planning out our autumnal adventures.

I missed a few days! Day 7 of herbal infusions is tulsi again. We had a stressful few days-so many kid activities and butchering chickens (I ended up in urgent care with that one!). Today calls for tulsi. I plan on having a very chill and relaxing last day of August and starting of with tulsi infusions is guaranteed to allow me to ease into this slow season.

I just wanted to share a strip of a clearing that we are solarizing to be able to plant native wildflower seeds for Licking County Pollinator Pathway meadows for monarchs project! This is probably only about a quarter of the clearing in our woods, but it is a huge start!
