Courage Counseling, PLLC

Courage Counseling, PLLC Life was never intended to do on your own. Talking with someone outside of yourself in a safe place can open up a door of peace.

Counseling can be an opportunity to:

- Understand yourself better
- Challenge your negative/destructive thoughts and behaviors
- Seek life outside of the confines of oneself
- Initiate confidence
- Repair/Strengthen relationships

My name is Jenna, and my hope is to open up the door to these areas of your life that may be on hold. I believe that we live in a world of hurry and promotion of independence that can choke the ability for fullness of life. My hope is to be with you as we challenge this and start replacing it with truth and peace.

Calling all engaged couples!! I am now facilitating premarital sessions utilizing the Prepare/Enrich assessment. If you or anyone you know is getting married/planning to get married this is a MUST!!

PREPARE/ ENRICH is one of the most widely used couple assessment programs for premarital counseling. It is the global standard – the #1 premarital and marriage assessment used for over 35 years. Couples take an online assessment focusing on topics such as children and parenting, financial planning and budgeting, intimacy, spirituality and religion, roles and responsibilities, leisure time, and creating an overall vision for married life. Sessions create the space for conversation on these topics, for couples to verbalize their expectations and desires, to deepen connection, and thoughtfully enter into a partnership together.

Also.... if you are already married, guess what? I can do a marriage assessment for you too.

Reach out if you have any questions or would like to get on the schedule.

Only people who are capable of loving strongly can also suffer great sorrow, but this same necessity of loving serves to counteract their grief and heals them.

Book suggestion of the month.
Struggling to find the right mindset during this time of year? This is a good read to remind you of how gratitude work can influence your body, mind and relationships. Great suggestion for those who are challenging unhealthy automatic thoughts and self disparaging attitudes.

How do you practice assertive communication in your relationship?

Being assertive (instead of being aggressive or submissive) starts with self-awareness and direct communication. By expressing your needs clearly and avoiding criticism, you can start problem-solving while showing respect for yourself and your loved one.

It might take some time and effort to get in the habit, but this can lead to an incredibly satisfying pay-off: less stress and more fun; the growth of trust and romance; a more satisfying and fulfilling relationship.

Healing can feel impossible when there has been no resolution with those who have hurt us. We want them to admit they were wrong. To make things right. To at least apologize.

But I’m learning that our ability to heal cannot depend on anyone’s choices but our own.

I have to place my healing in the Lord’s hands. I need to focus on what I can do to step toward Him in obedience. And forgiveness is what He’s asking of me.

I must separate my healing from others’ repentance or lack thereof. My ability to heal cannot be conditional on them wanting my forgiveness but only on my willingness to give it.

And I have to separate my healing from any of this being fair. My ability to heal cannot be conditional on the other person receiving adequate consequences for their disobedience but only on my obedience to trust God’s justice whether I ever see it or not.

My healing is my choice.

Oh, friend, what if we stopped waiting for things to feel right and fair and placed our healing in the hands of Jesus instead?

I know how incredibly hard all of this is. But we can heal. We can forgive. We can trust God. And none of those beautiful realities are held hostage by another person.

Healing will take time. But we must move forward toward it if we ever hope to get there. And forgiveness is a good step in the right direction. Not just good, but necessary.
