In Fall 2024, Dr. Jason Junkins, the dedicated CEO of Southern Immediate Care and an internal medicine physician, faced a challenging moment when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer following a routine colonoscopy that revealed an enlarged prostate.
This diagnosis was surprising, especially given his consistently normal PSA levels and no family history of cancer. However, an MRI uncovered a lesion, leading to a biopsy that confirmed Gleason 7 prostate cancer, which required prompt action.
After exploring his options, Dr. Junkins confidently chose to undergo a prostatectomy. The surgery was a success, with clear margins and no lymph node involvement, providing him with a bright outlook for the future. 🙌
This experience has fueled Dr. Junkins' newfound passion for advocating thorough physical exams, particularly the vital role of digital re**al exams in conjunction with PSA testing. He is eager to motivate men to take proactive steps towards their health and engage in essential screenings. 🏥❤️
Today, Dr. Junkins is thriving, skillfully managing his responsibilities overseeing nine Southern Immediate Care urgent care centers in Birmingham and Northeast Alabama, all while pursuing other projects. His unwavering faith and dedication to family, friends, and community shine through in everything he does. His journey serves as an inspiring reminder to prioritize health and make informed decisions.
