There are just 3 spots left for this Monday's Spring Equinox Somatic Play class.

Here's a chance to take an embodied pause on your lunch break on the day of Spring Equinox. An opportunity to honor this moment in time where there's a balance of dark and light as we transition out of hibernation.

It doesn't have to be a big deal or a large investment of time and money, but prioritizing a moment of your day to move and reflect is a bountiful step as we recognize the rhythm of nature.

Please pre-register here: www.thebodyiswise.com/workshops/

My first series in person since pre-pandemic will be starting at the end of this month. I only have 5 spots left so please sign up if you are interested - Somatic Support for Nervous System First-Aid

Through this 6 week series, we will be using an SE(™) tool called SCOPE as a way to stay embodied while the system experiences the physiological impact of a survival response.

Hi all! My first newsletter is out after almost 2 years. I have info about a new class and 6 week series starting at the end of February. Check it out and subscribe to future newsletters as I am trying to transition to use newsletters to be where I primarily get the word out!

You can subscribe in the upper left corner of the newsletter below when you click on it or go to my contact page of my website (https://www.thebodyiswise.com/contact/)

Through this time, I have felt bruised.  I've described it as an underlying fever - not putting me in bed, but decreasing my spark and ability to put myself out there.  It was almost as if when he died, a part of me (an excessively connected to him part AKA immeshed) - my wildness, my desire to ...

Here we are in July - Minority Mental Health Awareness Month as well as the 4th of July. It's impossible not to think about the lack of Independence for the majority of people in our country and the rewrite of history as we land on this holiday.

We are a group of White Mental Health Therapists and Somatic Practitioners here in Helena, MT that consider ourselves allies in training. We have each been individually working to dismantle and better understand our own privilege and how it shows up in our work. We have, and will continue to listen, learn and support the BIPOC community as well as do our own personal work, reading, examining, and all the stuff in between. We are all committed to the long-term focus of this movement and find ourselves humbly offering our skills not as false saviours, but recognizing that part of our privilege is having this knowledge and tools.

Each of us has been highly trained in tools for processing and dealing with the impact of trauma. Within the context of Montana, honoring the Black Lives Matter movement, recognizing Minority Mental Health Awareness Month and asking our communities to take a closer look at what they are celebrating today, we humbly offer the following -

Four free sessions with a trauma specialist (via telehealth) if you are a member of the BIPOC community and you contact us in July. This will be a first come, first serve basis with the understanding that once a practitioner's schedule is full, she will be unable to take more clients through this offer.

If you are interested in working with a Licensed Clinical Therapist (LCPC), please contact
Nolita Becker (also a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner): 406.570.1334
Jamie Anesi (sessions would not start until Fall): 406.465.6845

If you would like to work with a Body-Oriented Trauma Support Practitioner, please call:
Caitlin McWilliams: 406.210.4979 (you can also just give me a call to learn more about what I offer and if it's the right fit)
Please let us know if we have missed the mark with this offering or if we can adjust it to be of greater support.

If it feels like it would be a good fit for you or somebody you know, help us spread the word!

I started reading My Grandmother’s Hands this week and listened to on (which is where this quote is from) on my run this morning. This is where I see the nexus of what I’ve been studying and where I want to support going in the future (among many directions).

The body. The nervous system. The whole body, felt-sense of white body supremacy (which is the system we are all a part of whether we’ve used our privilege to turn a blind eye to it or not) - this is the place I want to continue to dive in, learn, unwind my own construction to increase my capacity. Our bodies are built from 14 generations back of traumas and joys. Think about that. Find the clean pain in this process and use it to open, unravel, re-organize, and metabolize. And don’t do it just sitting down. Move from impulse - the language of the body. Watch where it lands in your body, your breath, the texture of your energy. I’m here if this is your avenue of interest as well. Let’s dive in so we can find sustainable and meaningful ways to truly show up as allies - not just to say the right thing, but do the hard and meaningful work so our whole selves can be a part of this movement - not just our minds.

I just got back from 3 days camping at a lake on a beach with my family with no phones and came home to the news that the United States is on fire. Let me try that again - I just got back from 3 days being tucked away in the safety of my white privilege to realize I had missed showing up as an allie in a critical moment in time.

I can do better. I will do better. I will not be a fair weather allie.

But I am also scared - scared of offending, of not doing the right thing, of relying on my friends who are POC to teach me instead of figuring it out on my own. That being said, I don’t want my fear of doing it wrong to get in the way of doing something because I cannot sit and watch and sometimes share a post in a story.

So, I am thinking about the work I offer to clients. This work of somatic experiencing, and it has been revolutionary in my own personal world and I’ve seen great things with clients. I do this work, this work that incorporates and the body and movement in navigating the bound energy of trauma.

Can I share this work? Are there POC who would like to learn more about this? Can I offer these tools not as a white girl sharing in a top down sort of way but in a collaboration - no charge, because I too would be receiving?

POC who want to - I am ready to learn from you, to support your mission. Are there other ways you’d prefer I’d do this with the boundaries that I live in Helena, MT and have 3 littles in my care.

I’m clumsy. I don’t know how to offer this clearly, but I want to do more than I am doing now. I want to do better. I am with you. I am heartbroken. I cannot just stand by and watch any longer.

With a heavy heart but hopeful spirit, we have decided to permanently close our physical space. However, I am still working with private clients. Below is our public statement.
--------
To our incredible Lotus community:

We are in our final week of classes at The Lotus and will be closing the studio permanently starting June 1st. Classes for this week are listed above - all via Zoom and with the opportunity to take via recording if you can’t make the actual class.

Please know, this decision was not made easily and we are all carrying the heaviest of hearts. We find ourselves up against an insurmountable wall - how to safely run classes in our physical space during these uncertain times. The three of us believe that there’s no way to safely host sweaty, singing, moving, laughing, love-filled, classes (as we do here!) without potentially contributing to the spread of illness.

With that in mind, and facing the fact that the timeline is much longer than we originally estimated, we are left with the heavy decision to close The Lotus physical space. That being said, our love for each other, our love for our incredible team, and our love for our community still remain stronger than ever.

For those of you with remaining passes or memberships, we will be reaching out to you individually about the next steps. We also created Lotus t-shirts before this madness that we will be selling if you’d like a keepsake. Please stay tuned for those details.

The Lotus has always been a heart project and each of you who make up our community has been what kept us going and inspired us to grow and expand. While the physical space is closing, our vision for The Lotus will keep shining and we hope that this end creates a new beginning of possibility.

We are sending love and endless amounts of gratitude to each of you - our beautiful community. We will be giving ourselves a little space away from social media as we close so please understand if there’s a lack of response to messages.

We hope you all stay healthy and well.

Big love,
J, K ,C and M
