What a great turnout for our 1st meeting of 2025. We were pleased to report that we have 80 members signed up for this year, and also signed up another new member. We welcomed guest Thomas Windsor. He has a home here in Silver Lakes, but is a member of Philippines Post #4. In addition to lending his experience with fund raising, he also donated several items for our 4th of July Tournament raffle. After a very productive meeting, many of us gathered in the bar for a great meet and greet with new and old members.Thanks to our Historian, Jerry Nichols, for the great photos! In addition , Veterans, please take advantage of a free ticket for you and your spouse to see our Silverlakes Players show here in Silverlakes at the Ballroom. Post meeting on 8/27/24 under the leadership of our newly elected Post Commander Tony Wiggins. We had a busy agenda for the evening that included incentives to get new members, and raising funds to support Post activities. Additionally we voted to sponsor the "Walk, Run and Golf Tournament", which is a local event to raise money for Cancer awareness and support of City of Hope. 1st Vice/Service Officer Larry Keen reminded all about the updates in availability of support/disability ratings for PTSD and Agent Orange issues, along with Veterans Crisis Hotline support. Thank you for the participation and continued support of our members. Don't forget to join our Raffle at our next meeting, You could have your choice of items from the foot locker, some great knives to choose from, see photo.

Our Post Historian Jerry Nichols Had The Honor of Escorting The Bio's of Two KIA Soldiers Durring Run For The Wall and Wall to Wall Missions in May of this year. SFC Elmer Robert Lee Ables Jr. KIA in P**c Long South Vietnam, on 27 Oct. 1967. Uncle of our Post Member Rob Roberts. A Memory of His Loss resides at The Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. Panel Number 28E Line 71
Also CWA Randy L Billings. Who Died when His Blackhawk Helicopter went down in Southern Afganistan 17 Dec. 2013 His 5 Crew Members also lost thier Lives. CWA Randy Billings and His Crew are Memorialized at The Middle Eastern Conflicts Wall in Marseilles IL. Also Jerry Nichols carries a Dog Tag and a Bio of Lance CPL Kareem M. Nikoui who was Killed at Hamid Karzai International Airport Kabul Afghanistan on Aug 26 2021. He is one of The 13 Fallen U.S. Service Members Supporting Operation Freedom's Sentinel. Kareem and The rest of the 13 Fallen's Names are Memorialized in Bold white at The Mideastern Conflicts Wall in Marseilles IL.

Thank you to our sponsors, contributors, volunteers and players for making our Independence Day Golf Tournament such a huge success. The real winners are our Silver Lakes Youth Sports Organizations that will receive a total of $17064. Additionally, Pat Oschner, a charter member of the Post, retired as the Post Financial Officer. We thank him for his many years of service to the Post. Pat will remain active with the Post as a Trustee.

It is with great pleasure that American Legion Post 855 and the Chili Food FestivalCommittee announce the results of the Dempsey’s Chili Food Festival held on November 4th.Thanks to the hard work and generosity of the Committee, Sponsors, Volunteers and RaffleContributors, the proceeds of this event are in excess of $12,000, all of which will go directly tohelp the Veterans at the Barstow Veterans Home. All of the Veterans on the Angel Tree wereadopted, so every veteran at the Veterans Home will receive a gift from their sponsor along witha card from the Committee and a card from Jen Nelson and Janice Plazola’s third grade classes atHenderson Elementary School. The remainder of the proceeds are used for gift cards for theirmonthly BINGO games, monthly doughnuts for all the residents, Pumpkins for the Veterans todecorate at Halloween, and an event at the Home put on by the Committee. Our Post had a successful meeting in October. Topics of discussion were the upcoming Veterans Chili Food Festival, the Raffle to support our Post, and the status of the funds to build our Post. It is with great pleasure that American Legion Post 855 announces the distribution of proceeds from the recent Independence Day Golf Tournament. Because of the generosity of our Sponsors, Contributors, Players and Committee, we were able to clear $14,488 for the Tournament. At our Post meeting on Tuesday, Commander George Butterfield presented checks for $4,829 to Helendale Silver Lakes Little League, ACE Athletics, and Helendale CSD Parks & Rec.

Thank you to all our sponsors, contributors, volunteers and players for making our first Independence Day Golf Tournament such a huge success. Fun was had by all, but most importantly, we were able to raise over $13,000 that will go directly to support our youth sports right here in Silver Lakes!

A very successful year when our Post #855 was rewarded by State for reaching 114% of its membership goal. Additionally, member Jerry Nichols, who participated in Run for the Wall, presented one of the bios he carried to the Wall Featuring one of The Fallen 13 soldiers from The attack outside Hamid Karzai International Airport Kabul Afganistan Aug 26 2021, His Name was Kareem M. Nikoui from Norco CA Remember Him 🇺🇸
