It is with great pleasure that American Legion Post 855 and the Chili Food FestivalCommittee announce the results of the Dempsey’s Chili Food Festival held on November 4th.Thanks to the hard work and generosity of the Committee, Sponsors, Volunteers and RaffleContributors, the proceeds of this event are in excess of $12,000, all of which will go directly tohelp the Veterans at the Barstow Veterans Home. All of the Veterans on the Angel Tree wereadopted, so every veteran at the Veterans Home will receive a gift from their sponsor along witha card from the Committee and a card from Jen Nelson and Janice Plazola’s third grade classes atHenderson Elementary School. The remainder of the proceeds are used for gift cards for theirmonthly BINGO games, monthly doughnuts for all the residents, Pumpkins for the Veterans todecorate at Halloween, and an event at the Home put on by the Committee. This past year wehad a Taco Vendor for an outside Taco Tuesday, along with entertainment provided by localmusicians.The winners of the Chili Contest were: 1st Place - Joe Sciannameo2nd Place - John DarvelPeoples Choice - Tina & Ken SmithThe winner of the Corn Hole Tournament was:1st - Ben Dunigan & Tom FerratoWe want to give a special thanks to our sponsors - Dempsey's Pub, Silver Lakes PropertyManagement, Bereaved Fathers and Brothers, Daisy’s Cleaning Services, Invest Tax Advisory,C & C Kountry Cafe, Helendale CSD, and Jeremiah & MJ Brosowske. Additionally we want tothank the many people who gave generously to the Raffle that made it bigger and better thanever.
