Merry Josephine Huggins Underwood, affectionately known by friends and family as Merry, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort in the presence of her two sons, at the Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Born on August 2, 1942, in the town of Hemingway, South Carolina, Merry lived a life marked by dedication, love, and service to others, embodying the very essence of her name.

A testament to her vibrant spirit and compassionate heart, Merry's was a devoted nurse whose compassion touched countless lives, where she dedicated her career to caring for others with grace and kindness. After obtaining her BSN in Nursing, she served as an army civilian nurse in the Republic of Panama for 23 years. Her commitment to healthcare continued upon her return to South Carolina, where she worked with unwavering dedication at Grand Strand Hospital, Conway Hospital, and Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Merry's interests and contributions extended well beyond her professional life. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life- like driving the school bus in high school, being a Girl Scout, traveling the world, and especially enjoying the companionship of her beloved dogs, Daisy and Kai. Merry was a member of Ebenezer Methodist Church.

Her commitment to family and community was evident in all aspects of her life. As one of the founding members of the Paint Club at Surfside Presbyterian Church, her artistic spirit shone brightly through her love of painting, a hobby that brought her serenity and allowed her to express the beauty she saw in the world. Merry blended her creativity with fellowship. Yet, the role she cherished most was that of a Mom and Grandmother. Her sons, Todd William Underwood (Elizabeth) and Ryan Scott Underwood, her grandkids, Christopher (Katelyn), Ellen Taylor Holt (Matt), Spencer, Tyler, and Graeson, along with her great-grandkids, Margot, Pierce, and Banks, were the center of her universe. She devoted herself to her family, eagerly offering support and reveling in the joy of helping raise her beloved grandchildren.

Merry was also the loving sister of Anne Lane and William "Billy" Huggins and was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Merridan Huggins and Harriette Ackerman Huggins, and a son, Eric Underwood.

Her legacy of love, care, and creativity lives on in the hearts of those who knew her She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

A Memorial service celebrating Merry’s life will be at Ebenezer Methodist Church, 1760 Pope Road, Hemingway, S.C. 29554, on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Lou Perez. Inurnment will take place after the service at Old Johnsonville Cemetery, 865 South Georgetown Highway, Johnsonville, S.C. 29555.

A visitation for family and friends will be held immediately after inurnment at Ebenezer Methodist Church.

Joseph Wesley Pope, known affectionately as Joe to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital in Georgetown, South Carolina. Born on November 23, 1932, Joe's life was a tapestry of joy, adventure, and heartfelt relationships that made his 92 years on this earth a testament to a life well-lived.

Joe was born in Hemingway, South Carolina to the late Irby Pope and Eva Tanner Pope Avant. He was predeceased by his cherished wife, Ella Russell Cox Edwards Pope, and his siblings, Irby Thayer Pope, Johnny Avant, Wayne Avant, Alvilda Pope Russ, Olene Pope Avant, and Myrtle Pope Goude, and a bonus son, Tommy Edwards. Joe is survived by a son, Christopher R. Pope, and a nephew, Timothy Farwell, who was like a son to him. Further cherishing his memory are his bonus children, Lynn Meekins (Randy) and Mary Lib Mintz (Buddy); bonus daughter-in-law, Sheila T. Edwards; sisters-in-law, Mary Pope and Janice Avant; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Joe proudly served his country in both the Army and National Guard, laying a foundation of discipline and service that he carried throughout his life. His professional journey as a maintenance technician for United Conveyor Corporation was marked by dedication and hard work, qualities that also led him to become the founder of Hideaway Golf Course in Hemingway.

More than his professional achievements, Joe will be remembered for his robust zest for life. He relished the freedom of flying ultra lite planes. His social calendar was a testament to his gregarious nature, being an active member of the Senior Golf League, savoring mornings with the Hardee's Breakfast Club, and exchanging stories with friends at the round table at Floyd Miller's Store.

Joe's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. Friends would often find him enjoying the local restaurants; Tijuana's on Thursdays and Big D's or Kenny's Barbeque on weekend nights. His love for travel and photography allowed him to capture moments of beauty and joy, which he shared generously with all around him.

To those who knew him, Joe epitomized friendliness, adventure, and an ever-interesting spirit. His warmth radiated in his quick smile and welcoming handshake. His passion for life was infectious, and his adventurous spirit inspired many to embrace the joys within their reach.

A Graveside service will be at Pine Bluff Cemetery, 14000 Old P*e Dee Road, Hemingway, S.C. 29554, on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Dave Worthington.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, 210 E. George Street, Hemingway, SC 29554.

Mary Phyllis Pearce Driggers, known affectionately as Mary to her friends and family, passed away at her home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on July 20, 2025. Born on August 29, 1958, in Hamilton, Alabama, Mary was known for her kindness and love throughout her 66 years of life.

She was the daughter of Calvin Pearce and the late Doris Lavone Avery Pearce. She was a sister to Susan Pearce Spann and was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Austin and Mary Avery, and her treasured granddaughter, Madison Gail Gilliland.

Mary's legacy is carried on by her children, Monica Gilliland Moore (Chris) and William Anthony Gilliland (Misty). She was a doting grandmother to Mary Lavender (Steven), CJ Moore (Amber), Morgan Glover (Rylan), Kaitlyn Gilliland, William Austin Gilliland, and Laken Doughty. Her great-grandchildren, Archer Vibbert, Isabella Lavender, and Nathaniel Lavender, brought her immeasurable joy and will miss her deeply.

Those who knew Mary understood her passion for life's simple pleasures. She found solace in the rhythmic dance of wind chimes and the gentle lapping of waves at the beach. Mary's love for her family was unparalleled, and she cherished every moment spent playing games like Phase 10 with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

A woman of many interests, Mary was an avid reader and a fan of the long-running soap opera, "The Young and the Restless." Her love for crosswords was more than a pastime; it was a testament to her sharp wit and love for a good challenge.

As we bid farewell to Mary, we celebrate a life well-lived and a woman well-loved. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, just as the sound of her wind chimes will forever echo in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Mary Phyllis Pearce Driggers will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will live on through the love she planted in the lives of her family and friends

Myron Keels LeGette, known as Myron by his loved ones, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, surrounded by family at his daughter's home in Hemingway, South Carolina. Born on September 26, 1964, in Georgetown, S.C., Myron's life was one rich with love, laughter, and an unwavering zest for living.

A graduate of Pleasant Hill High School in 1982, Myron furthered his education at Horry-Georgetown Technical College, where he earned an Associate Degree. His career spanned over two decades as a dedicated maintenance technician with Coastal Wire Company in Georgetown, showcasing his knack for problem-solving and his exceptional technical skills.

Myron leaves behind a legacy of enduring relationships and cherished memories. He is survived by his daughters, Brittany L. Skinner (Adam), Logan L. Overcash (Hunter), and son, Ross L. LeGette; grandchildren, Drake D. Skinner, Reece P. Skinner, Hawkins Anderson, Callie Grace Overcash, Miller Anderson, Colbie Elizabeth Overcash; his life partner, Martha Miller; and his brother, Norman A. LeGette (Donna Faye). He will be fondly remembered by his niece, Claire LeGette, and nephew, Seth LeGette (Anna), as well as his bonus child, Whitney Anderson (Andy). Myron was predeceased by his parents, Alexious "Lex" Woodson LeGette and Carolyn Keels LeGette.

He was a man of many interests and talents: a conversationalist who never met a stranger, an avid angler and hunter, a cook who infused love into his dishes, a joyful singer in the comfort of his home, and a vacationer who cherished his time at the beach. In addition, Myron was a member of Union United Methodist Church. His favorite hobby was working on cars, especially his prized Corvette and Jeep, and this passion was a testament to his handy nature—he could fix almost everything. Above all, Myron dearly loved his family and cherished his time with them.

Those who knew Myron would describe him as friendly, handy, and endlessly interesting. He loved farming and found immense joy in cultivating the land. He relished in the opportunity to build and fix things. We remember Myron as a pillar of strength, kindness, and fun, who embraced the beauty of the simple things in life.

Funeral services will be at Union United Methodist Church, 28406 County Line Road , Georgetown, S.C. 29440, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Richard Jayroe and Rev. Wade Everett. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, July 21, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, 210 E. George Street, Hemingway, SC 29554.

Bonny Jan Langston West, affectionately known as Jan to her loved ones, passed away peacefully at her home on the 15th of July 2025, at the age of 67. Born on March 26, 1958, in Georgetown, South Carolina, Jan was a beacon of warmth and generosity, touching the lives of all who knew her.

Jan is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, George Edwin West, and their two sons, Shawn Edwin West (Lee) and Trevor Van West (Jennifer). She was the proud grandmother to Zachary Shawn West, Mariah Katherine West, Jacelyn Hope West, and Daxton Trevor West. Her legacy continues through her brothers, Don Langston and Andy Owens, sister-in-law Carolyn Thurlow, brother-in-law Adman "Fritz" West Jr. (Geraldine), and her many cherished nieces and nephews. Jan's spirit will also be fondly remembered by her beloved fur babies, Peanut and Chewy. She was predeceased by her parents, Wade Hampton "Kenneth" Langston and Carrie Casselman Langston, as well as her brothers, Arthur W. Langston, Van Langston, Dan Langston, Walt Langston, and her sister, Barbara Ann Davis.

Her professional life was marked by her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to service. She was the proud owner of Jan West Janitorial Service for over 15 years. Her journey in the janitorial business began at A to Z Janitorial, where she worked for many years before venturing out to establish her own successful company. Her work ethic and commitment to her clients were unparalleled, and she built her business on the foundation of trust and excellence.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Jan was known for her love of cooking. She was a great cook, often found in the kitchen preparing meals that brought her family together. Her flower beds were a testament to her green thumb, and she found joy in the simple pleasure of fishing in the afternoons. Jan's adventurous spirit shone through in her love for bingo and her passion for exploring antique shops, always on the lookout for a unique find. However, her favorite pastime was vacationing in the mountains with her family, particularly in Cades Cove, where she felt most at peace with nature.

Jan was the epitome of friendliness, always greeting others with a smile and an open heart. Her selflessness was evident in the way she put the needs of others before her own, and her adventurous nature inspired those around her to embrace life with enthusiasm and courage.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2025, at Young Funeral Home 210 E. George Street, Hemingway, SC 29554. Officiating will be Rev. Lee Walters. Burial to follow in Piney Forest Cemetery 18300 County Line Road, Andrews, SC 29510.

Allen Dale Watts, known affectionately as Dale to his friends and family, passed away on July 12, 2025, at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Born on August 29, 1947, in Marion, SC, Dale's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his loved ones, a commitment to service, and a warmth that touched the hearts of many.

Dale's life was one of meaningful connections and steadfast love. He is survived by his devoted wife, Becky Miller Watts, with whom he shared a life full of cherished moments. His legacy continues through his sons, Chad Watts, Spencer Dale Watts, and John Hamilton Watts, who will remember their father as a pillar of strength and support. Dale's sister, Rhonda Wooten, and his sister-in-love, Monnie Fipps, along with his mother, Dorothy Powell Kegeris, and numerous nieces and nephews, will miss his guiding presence. He was predeceased by his father, Golan "Cub" Watts.

For 45 years, Dale served his community as a bread man, a role that allowed him to meet and befriend countless individuals. His work was not just a job but an opportunity to spread kindness and build lasting friendships. Dale's faith was an integral part of his life, and he was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Tabor City, NC, where in past years he served as a deacon. His service to his country as a member of the US Army during the Vietnam War was a testament to his courage and patriotism.

Dale's greatest accomplishments were not found on paper, medals, or trophies, but in the positive impact he made in the lives of others. He was a constant source of support for his boys, always there to lend a hand or offer encouragement. His pride in being a good husband and a present father was evident to all who knew him.

An avid North Carolina Tarheel fan, Dale enjoyed a round of golf and a good game of poker. His love for cake, especially chocolate, was well-known among his friends and family. Dale's smile could light up a room, and his outgoing personality allowed him to connect with people of all ages, from the smallest child to the elderly. He was respectful to everyone he met, embodying the qualities of friendliness, love, and selflessness.

Dale's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched. His ability to make a difference, to be there for his family, and to connect with others will be his enduring legacy. As we say goodbye to Allen Dale Watts, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a soul that will forever be remembered for his kindness and generosity of spirit.

A Celebration of Life will be at Center Baptist Church, 2602 Schoolhouse Drive, Hemingway, S.C. 29554, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Dave Worthington and Rev. Rusty Pope.

The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall.
