🛑IMPORTANT INFORMATION if you are currently receiving a compounded medication from any pharmacy in Kentucky
📢Effective January 1, 2026, the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy will enforce the 2022 revisions of USP Chapters 795 (nonsterile compounding), 797 (sterile compounding), and 800 (hazardous drugs). This transition means pharmacies must update their practices to align with these newer standards, which include new definitions and requirements for designated persons and hazardous drug handling. Until January 1, 2026, the older 2014 revisions of USP 795 and 2008 of USP 797 are in effect.
▪️What does this mean? If a pharmacy in Kentucky is currently compounding and they are NOT in compliance with USP 800 (a sterile negative pressure room) they will not be able to compound using hazardous drugs. This would include any Horomone Replacement Therapies (HRT) as well as any drug on the NIOSH list. This is NOT exclusive to any pharmacy that I own but EVERY pharmacy in the state of Kentucky.
▪️You will see a note on compounds leaving the pharmacy this month that we are working with the board of pharmacy in order to try and mitigate a solution without unnecessary cost on renovations because cost vs benefit to the business just isn’t there. I always try to lead with transparency and to be as informative as possible, as soon as possible. Any questions please feel free to contact the pharmacy and I would be glad to field any questions/ concerns.
In short, if you receive a compound from a pharmacy in the state of Kentucky, you should ask if they are going to comply with the 2026 standards. If not, ask them to help you find a pharmacy that is, so there is not a lapse in therapy and it’s a smooth transition. We will NOT be compounding beginning January 1, 2026.
