A birth center birth is NOT a home birth.
I’m sorry but it isn’t. What’s the definition of home? People calling a birth center birth a home birth just isn’t accurate. Now I have nothing against a birth center birth at all.
But it’s still in a building that is set up for transfer to the hospital if needed and has a lot of medical personnel.
It is not home.
So if you say you home birthed in a center it isn’t accurate.
I almost chose a birth center for one pregnancy but I risked out.
The pros
I could leave within hours of birth. There was a tub I could labor in IF my water hadn’t broken. They had real people beds and not hospital beds. It looked just like a nice hotel room. They had all the things such as birth balls, peanut balls, teas.. ect. They allowed you to eat while in labor.
Cons
You couldn’t get in the tub if your water had actually broken. You still have less privacy that at home. It wasn’t your germs at home to get the baby’s microbiome started as soon as entry into this world. You can get risked out pretty easily. You can be mandated to take a birthing class even if it isn’t your first pregnancy.
It is not home.
So when experiencing birth just remember the main focus on birth is to bring forth a new soul onto earth with the least trauma possible.
Your birth story no matter where you are should be a positive one. You should be proud of where you chose to give birth. But at the same time, a birth center birth is not a home birth because it isn’t your home. It’s nowhere near the same experience.
