Some voices stay with us long after they're gone.

A voicemail we can't delete. A laugh we can still hear. The way they said our name. Sound has a way of bringing people back, even if just for a moment.

What sound reminds you of someone you love?

Meet Chae-

Chae Trantham Davis has served on our staff since 2008 and became Vice President and General Manager in 2012. Like several generations of her family, Chae is a Henderson County native and lifelong resident.

She began her funeral service career while still in high school, working in a local cemetery office. In 1997, she graduated from West Henderson High School and then went on to earn her degree in Funeral Service from Piedmont Technical Community College in Greenwood, SC, in 2000.

Since receiving her North and South Carolina funeral license in 2001, she has been in Hendersonville working as a funeral director. She earned the prestigious Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) designation by exceeding certification requirements in Academics, Profession, Public Education and Service, and Career Review.

Chae and her husband, Jason, live in Mills River and have three sons. They own and operate North River Farms and are members of Boylston Baptist Church. Chae is the former Mayor of the Town of Mills River.

A eulogy isn't about finding the perfect words. It's about telling the truth about someone's life.

The funny stories. The quiet moments. The things only you would know.

When we share those memories out loud, something shifts. The person we lost becomes real again, not just to us, but to everyone in the room.

The best eulogies aren't polished. They're personal.

A will and a pre-plan are not the same thing, and you might need both.

A will covers what happens to your stuff: your home, your accounts, your belongings. It goes into effect after you pass and has to go through probate.

A pre-plan covers what happens to you: your funeral wishes, your service details, and sometimes even the costs. It goes into effect immediately and takes the burden off your family.

One protects your assets. The other protects your loved ones from having to guess.

Questions? We're always here to help.

Ask someone in their 60s, 70s, or 80s about their strongest memories, and most of them will come from the same window: ages 15 to 25.

Psychologists call this the "reminiscence bump."

It's why the songs from our teenage years still hit different. Why we remember that first car, that first job, that first heartbreak in vivid detail.

Those years shape who we become. And when we sit with someone near the end of life, those are often the stories they want to tell.

What's your strongest memory from that time?

🌹 Rose: You're a classic. Timeless, elegant, and a little romantic at heart.

🌷 Tulip: You appreciate simplicity and beauty in equal measure.

🌻 Sunflower: You light up a room. Warm, joyful, and impossible to ignore.

🌸 Lily: You bring peace wherever you go. Calm, graceful, and deeply loved.

Flowers have always been a way to say what words can't. What's your favorite?

It's one of the most important conversations you'll ever have, and one of the easiest to put off.

Here are 6 ways to start:
1. Pick a calm, quiet moment (not during a crisis)
2. Start by sharing your own wishes first
3. Ask open-ended questions like "What matters most to you?"
4. Listen without jumping in to fix or solve
5. Write down what you both agree on
6. Revisit it once a year because wishes can change

You don't have to figure it all out in one conversation. You just have to start.
