Absolutely LOVING this new shirt from . I feel so lucky to be able to help families with all methods of feeding their babies and children. In graduate school I was placed at a feeding clinic for my graduate assistantship. I spent 2 years learning the program, helping with behind the scene things (cleaning, shopping, gardening), helping supervise the 1st year students etc. This placement helped build my love and skills for all things feeding. I currently provide sensory feeding, dysphagia based feeding, bottle feeding and lactation feeding intervention. Feeding is the way we show others, specifically our kids, our love and care for them. Grateful for the opportunity to play a part in helping families feed their children 🍉🍌🍎

What are your rights as a pumping, working mom in Tennessee as well as your rights as a nursing mom in Tennessee? These graphics provide a basic overview of current TN legislation. It should be noted that there are *caveats* in the law that some employers can work around (e.g. TN requires break time to express milk as long as it isn’t too costly to the employer.) There are also exceptions included for companies with less than 50 employees. I HIGHLY recommend contacting A Better Balance for any assistance needed to know your specific rights. They have trained law professionals on staff who can be of assistance (for FREE!)

Simple Tips: One of the best supervisors I had at feeding clinic in graduate school said, “Are your children not eating foods, or are we not offering them?” THIS. Although it seems wasteful, children surely cannot try foods we don’t offer. We tend to offer foods we know they will eat (chicken nuggets, macaroni, fruit snacks). I know we get concerned about them eating anything so try a small medication to this. Offer chicken nuggets for protein along with the rest of the meal the family is eating. I like to “pull” the meal I serve apart. Such as, if I make soup I’ll give some in a bowl and serve my toddler a plate with the ingredients pulled out (some potatoes, some corn, some green beans, some shredded chicken). This allows for more exposure to the foods we are eating as a family. Including toddler in food selection, food prep, and eating as a family provides multiple exposures, opportunities for tasting items as the help prep, and opportunities to model expectations of meal times.

This week’s series: Toddler Eating & Picky Eating. I have seen a significant increase in the referrals for picky eating. I’m going to share both therapist and mom tips that have worked for me in both roles to increase exposure to foods, increase likelihood that a toddler may try the food, and decrease mealtime stress.
