✨ Movement is Medicine ✨

Too often patients come in with back pain and immediately blame their "poor posture", talking about how they have spent countless hours trying to find the right desk setup, posture brace or how they try and sit up straight all of the time.

But what if I told you it wasn't your posture causing your back pain...? While posture can tell us a lot about what is going on with someone's body, it doesn't necessarily mean it is the true cause of your back pain 🙅🏽‍♀️

Sit up straight, slouch, put one foot up, sit with your legs crossed ... ALL of these positions will cause pain if you stay in them long enough!

Studies have shown that switching positions and taking 20 second breaks every 15 minutes decreased back pain more than any single "posture" could 🤷🏽‍♀️

Your body was made to move! 🤸🏽‍♀️
If you fail to move it enough, it will yell at you.

👉🏼 Take a break every hour
👉🏼 Been sitting for a while? Try standing!
👉🏼 Do 20 seconds of mobility work every 15 minutes
👉🏼 Set a timer so you don't get too "lost in work" and forget to move!

🥦 Diet plays a big role in the chemical stress of our body. What we eat can be full of food additives, artificial sweeteners, and artificial coloring! Focus on fueling your body with whole organic foods, and stay away from processed foods that can cause inflammation.

🧴Our skin is a vital organ that absorbs what it comes in contact with. Synthetic fragrances in our makeup and skin care products can lead to health issues such as endocrine disruption, developmental problems, and reproductive issues.

⁣Get busy moving or get busy dying! Cells are the smallest component of our bodies and they are busy eating, breathing, producing new cells, and fighting disease 24/7! 💪🏽⠀

We too can benefit in many ways from staying active. Increased circulation, improved oxygen to our brain and other tissues, improved digestion, faster and more efficient immune response, more endurance, and even injury prevention are just a few benefits of a body in motion! 🏃🏽‍♀️⠀

Moving means just that. You don’t need a $90/month gym membership. You don’t need to attend a 90 minute spin class. Park a bit further from the door when you go shopping, take the stairs, take a trip around the block after dinner (psst … it helps digestion). If you work from home, pace when you’re on the phone, alternate from standing to sitting, get some oxygen and vitamin D at lunch and enjoy the benefits of clearer thinking after. Be intentional about being good to yourself. 🧘🏼‍♂️⠀

In today’s world, our attention is pulled 100 different directions in a day. We prioritize what we need to do and make sure we accomplish those tasks daily. Make yourself a priority and I promise you won’t regret it … you may actually be able to knock off even more of your tasks. Get moving and be ok with all of the benefits that it provides! Most of you reading this would probably be in shock. ⠀
