Our hospitals across Middle Tennessee collected more than 1,100 pounds of unused and expired medications during the annual “Crush the Crisis” prescription drug take-back events held on Saturday, October 25. The initiative coincided with the Drug Enforcement Administration - DEA's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, aimed at reducing the risk of medication misuse and promoting safe disposal.

“We are proud of our communities for showing up and taking action,” said Dr. Ajit Singh, chief medical officer at TriStar Health. “By safely disposing of more than 1,100 pounds of medication, we’re helping prevent potential misuse and making a meaningful impact on public health across Middle Tennessee.”

Among the participating facilities, TriStar Horizon Medical Center in Dickson led the effort, collecting 420 pounds of medication. TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield followed with 98 pounds collected. Thank you to our community members who dropped off unused and unwanted medication for safe and proper disposal, helping us on prescription drug misuse.

As the East Nashville community continues to grow, so does its need for high-quality emergency care. To meet that need, TriStar Skyline Medical Center recently broke ground on the new TriStar East Nashville ER.

The freestanding emergency room will offer 24/7 care with 12 treatment rooms, laboratory services and advanced imaging capabilities, including X-ray and CT. The $21.4 million facility is slated to open in 2026.

“Timely care saves lives,” said Brian Marger, chief executive officer at TriStar Skyline. “We’re proud to bring emergency services closer to home, ensuring that, when seconds count, help is just around the corner.”

Expanding access in East Nashville means patients and families will have emergency care minutes from home while still benefiting from the expertise of TriStar Skyline’s Level I Trauma Center, Burn Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center.

After a devastating side-by-side UTV crash, Bo Bryant is determined to keep others safe by sharing his story and encouraging seatbelt use, helmet use and responsible driving.

A grain farmer in Adams, Tennessee, Bo reached to change the music while driving his UTV when he veered off the road, flipping multiple times. After the emergency team at TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center stabilized Bo, he was transferred to TriStar Skyline Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center, for continued critical care.

There, trauma specialists performed lifesaving treatment. Bo suffered a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the chest down, among other serious injuries. He spent 17 days in the ICU, underwent multiple procedures and began early rehabilitation.

Bo emphasizes that ATVs and UTVs are not toys. His story is a poignant reminder that one choice can change your life in an instant and that expert trauma care and compassionate support can make all the difference.

❤️ – or atrial fibrillation – is a disruption in the heart’s electrical system, leading to an irregular heartbeat. The American Heart Association estimates that over 5 million Americans are living with AFib. Symptoms vary from one person to another, and some people may not have any symptoms at all. Those with AFib have a higher risk of stroke, heart failure and other health concerns. Fortunately, there are a variety of treatment options, which can help reduce the risk.

If you’re living with AFib and you’re looking for support and resources, visit the American Heart Association’s My AFib Experience® website: https://bit.ly/3Ir5eEg

In collaboration with the American Heart Association, our larger HCA Healthcare network promotes better heart health through national education efforts and community integration to teach about healthy heart activities, CPR emergency response and knowing the symptoms of heart issues.
