Join artist Kara Ashley-Gilmore for a special session of Mindful Mark-Making. We invite you to tap into the calming power of your hands and breath as we use watercolors and drawing tools to guide you on a journey of relaxation.

This session will lead you through a series of grounding techniques and expressive exercises, allowing you to lose yourself in a meditative session of painting and mark-making. You'll learn to create layered, nature-based patterns, finding a deep sense of flow and inner calm. This is a gentle, process-oriented practice where the focus is on the journey, not the final destination.

All you need to bring is a willingness to play and a desire to connect. We’ll provide everything else, including:

-An opening mindfulness meditation to center you.
-Bilateral drawing and breathwork warm-up exercises to get your creative energy flowing.
-An extended, intuitive painting session where you can explore line, color, and shape without judgment.
-A closing circle to share insights and reflections.

Come get messy and reconnect with yourself through the joy of creating!

Working in a grid is a fun and easy way to experiment with multiple compositions, materials, and colors around a single theme. Every square ends up uniquely different and interesting. I use tape, post-it notes, or free-hand draw to create the grid.

I made this art in response to the devastation of Hurricane Helene last fall. It's titled, "Forgive the Trees, for This is Their Cycle". Ultimately, it's a collage about hope, acceptance, and renewal. I hope we can all make space this weekend to be with whatever emotions come up as we move through the anniversary. 💜

The Case for Making Art When the World Is on Fire.

"Making art isn’t self-indulgent — it’s an essential, radical act of creation, says writer Amie McNee. She explores the importance of having a creative practice, whether you’re a long-time artist or an aspiring one, and shows how to move past self-doubt and start expressing yourself. If you’ve ever felt like your creativity doesn’t matter in a world with so many problems, this talk is for you." (Recorded at TEDxManchester on March 1, 2025)

While working on this series has been fun and rewarding, it's brought those old self-critical gremlins back. I'm keeping them at bay by reminding myself that my intention is to PLAY. Even if these will eventually be sold, staying in curiosity will get me to the finish line in a more joyful place (and with lots of happy artful surprises along the way).

Your art is waiting.

Whatever has been whispering your name is waiting for your attention. No one else can answer this call, because only you can create the art you’re meant to make in this life.

Are you ready to answer its call?

🖌
What if your rage held a deeper, sacred purpose?

So often, we disconnect from our anger, fearing its intensity or the loss of control it might bring. But what if we could explore it safely?

Join us for "Sacred Rage," a workshop that offers the opportunity to tap into your anger using art while staying grounded and connected to your body. We’ll explore your rage, what silences it, and what it needs to move forward.

As Cole Arthur Riley beautifully articulates, “The more we listen to our own anger, the better a listener it becomes." This workshop is a space to explore its edges safely.

What to expect:
🔹Mindfulness practices and intuitive painting
🔹Self-expression through lines, colors, and shapes
🔹A guided poetry exercise to transform images into written form

Join us if you're ready to uncover the message your anger needs you to hear.
