Radon may be invisible, but its impact is very real.

It’s a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can enter homes through the soil and build up indoors without anyone noticing. In fact, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.

The good news? Testing is simple.

✔ Every home can have radon
✔ The only way to know is to test
✔ Certified professionals can help guide the next steps

Take a moment this Friday to learn something that could protect your home and your health.

Quick question:
Have you ever tested your home for radon?

ANSI/AARST MAH

Protocol for Conducting Measurements of Radon and Radon Decay Products in Homes

The ANSI/AARST MAH standard establishes the minimum requirements for measuring radon in single-family residences to determine whether mitigation is needed to protect current and future occupants.

This Soil Gas Measurement Standard applies to:
• Homeowners
• Real estate and non-real-estate transactions
• Professionals providing radon testing services

What MAH Covers
• Proper planning for radon tests, including multiple test locations
• Minimum test durations and closed-building condition requirements
• How to evaluate and resolve conflicting test results
• Clear professional requirements for qualifications, documentation, and reporting

Sections 1–7 apply to anyone conducting radon tests.
Sections 8–9 apply to professional services.

What’s New in MAH-2023
✔ Improved guidance for multi-location testing
✔ Clear direction when closed-building conditions start late
✔ Better handling of disagreeing test results
✔ Strengthened professional documentation and reporting requirements

📅 Effective date for compliance: December 1, 2023
📄 Prior version: MAH-2019

ANSI/AARST standards are developed and maintained by a balanced, ANSI-accredited consensus body of volunteers representing regulators, scientists, laboratories, professionals, and public health stakeholders — ensuring credibility, transparency, and public trust.

🎙 Now Live: Radon Is a Lifetime Exposure

What happens when someone tests their home for radon… and realizes they’ve lived there for 20+ years?

In our latest episode of The Indoor Environments Project, we talk with Dr. Allison Wallace about cumulative radon exposure and lung cancer risk — especially among people who have never smoked.

This episode dives into:

• How lifetime exposure shapes risk
• Why screening criteria may need to evolve
• What doctors need to know about radon
• And why prevention is still our most powerful tool

Radon isn’t just a test result.
It’s a long-term exposure — and a preventable one.

Protect your home: Radon facts you need to know.

Radon is a colorless, odorless gas. You can’t see or smell it — testing is the only way to know if it’s present in your home.

When testing, work with an NRPP-certified professional to ensure proper methods and reliable results.

🎙 New Episode: Radon Is a Lifetime Exposure

Radon risk is not a snapshot in time — it’s a cumulative, lifetime exposure.

In this episode of The Indoor Environments Project, we sit down with . Allison Wallace, thoracic surgeon and lung cancer researcher, to discuss how long-term radon exposure contributes to lung cancer risk — particularly among never-smokers.

We explore:

• Why lifetime exposure is difficult to quantify
• The limits of current screening models
• The gap between environmental awareness and medical education
• What radon professionals should recommend when clients discover elevated levels after decades in one home

This conversation bridges environmental science, clinical medicine, and public policy — and reinforces something we know in this industry:

Radon is measurable.
Radon is preventable.
And professional standards matter.
