Most people think fat loss gets harder because they're doing something wrong. ⁣

That's not it. ⁣

Your body is simply adapting.⁣

As you lose weight, you burn fewer calories.⁣
Hunger increases.⁣
Progress slows. ⁣

So what used to work no longer feels like it's working anymore.⁣

That's when most people push harder. ⁣

But a better approach is to change the conditions.⁣

Spend time maintaining.⁣
Let your body adjust.⁣

One of the responses I received in a recent Fitness & Nutrition Learning Survey was simple:

“Diet.”

Not dieting.
Just what to eat.

Recently, a client who has been with me for over two years told me:

“Adam, I just don’t know what to eat.”

And honestly, that’s incredibly common.

Nutrition advice online can be overwhelming.

So I love this simple framework from Precision Nutrition.

Instead of labeling foods as good or bad, it organizes them into three categories:

🥩 Eat More
🍚 Eat Some
🍩 Eat Less

It’s simple.
It’s practical.
And it helps people make better choices without feeling restricted.

Lou Holtz once said:

Motivation determines what you do.

Most people think motivation is the hard part of fitness.

Getting started.
Showing up.

But after years of coaching, I’ve noticed something.

Two people can do the same workout.

One attacks it.
The other just goes through the motions.

Same program. Very different results.

That difference usually comes down to attitude.

Pre-Workout Nutrition Reality Check

About an hour before my workout today, I needed fuel.

I was next door to McDonald’s.

So here’s what I grabbed:
🥣 McDonald’s oatmeal
🥛 8 oz 1% milk
💪🏻 1 scoop whey protein

Macros came out to roughly:
✅ 80g carbs
✅ 38g protein
✅ 8g fat

And guess what?

That lines up almost perfectly with what sports nutrition experts recommend before high-intensity training.

Carbs fuel the workout.
Protein supports muscle.
Low-fat helps it digest quickly.

So even though it came from McDonald’s, nutritionally, it works very well for the situation.

That’s an important lesson.

There are no “good” or “bad” foods.

There are just better choices for the situation you’re in.

Sometimes the right choice is the perfectly prepared meal at home.

Sometimes the right choice is oatmeal from McDonald’s because your workout starts in an hour.

Either way, the goal is the same: fuel the body so it can perform.

And one more coaching nugget I share with my clients all the time:

Consistency beats perfection.

Waiting for the “perfect” meal often means you end up skipping the meal entirely.

A good choice, made consistently, will beat the perfect choice you rarely make.

Eight years ago today, I filed the paperwork to become 28:Tenn Fitness.

What I remember most isn’t the forms—it’s the people.

My friend Rocky Arnold went with me that day to help me figure out what I was doing. I had no idea what steps to take or what any of it meant. He just showed up and walked through it with me. I’m not sure this place exists without that moment.

And over the past eight years, this gym has been sustained by an incredible community.

The clients who trusted me when there wasn’t much to see yet.
The people who referred friends and family.
The ones who stayed when things were hard.
The ones who still show up today, ready to work.

If you’ve ever trained here, supported us, encouraged me, or referred someone—thank you. You are the reason this place exists.

Happy (very) Belated 47th Birthday to Tim!🎉

Yes, I know, his birthday was last week.
And yes, I’m just now posting this.
But it was important to post it.😄

Because for his birthday this year, I gave him a gift he’ll never forget...

As of now, 28:Tenn Fitness plans to reopen tomorrow.

That said, safety comes first. If you don’t feel comfortable navigating weather, parking, or potentially icy walking surfaces, please don’t feel obligated to attend. Sessions can and will be made up.

For those who do come in:

The back parking lot is currently clearer than the front.
The back door will be unlocked.

We’ll continue to use good judgment and adjust as needed. Thanks for your patience—and for being a community that takes care of itself.

Weather Update

Out of an abundance of caution due to weather and power uncertainty, 28:Tenn Fitness will be closed Monday and Tuesday.

Safety comes first. Training sessions can and will be made up—we’ll handle the details later.

Please take care of yourselves, check on family and neighbors, and travel only if it’s safe to do so. We’ll share updates as conditions become clearer.

I tweaked my back on Friday.

This morning, I slipped on the ice and went down hard.
Felt my knee tweak.
Later, I squatted down to open the microwave at the gym and my knee just… gave out.

Not ideal.

I still trained today—but not the way it was written on the board.

Not to prove anything.
Not to push through pain.
To keep myself moving forward without making things worse.

Training today meant being honest:
• Some movements were out
• Some loads were lighter
• Some ranges were shorter
• And a few things felt just fine

I’m not broken.
I’m adjusting.

The goal wasn’t a PR.
It was leaving the gym feeling better than when I walked in—and confident I can train again tomorrow.

Plans change.
Bodies do weird things.
You adapt and keep going.
