At 9:30 an alarm sounds to take my night time supplements. I take a few things but the one I want to highlight tonight is one I've discussed several times today with patients. Glycine offers multiple metabolic and anti-inflammatory benefits, particularly in patients with obesity, metabolic syndrome, and other disorders. It assists with insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism and has even been shown to reduce plasma triglycerides (the ones on your cholesterol labs). It works as an antioxidant and helps the liver get rid of harmful metabolites. I like that it helps fight the negative effects of perimenopause on your liver and I take it at night to improve my sleep quality that also suffers in this lovely stage of life. (It can even decrease core body temperature for better sleep, keeping those hot flashes from burning you up!)
