There are few things that get me wearing 👠 but advocating for access to midwives at the GA is one of them.

For those who dont know, I am working on my MPH and interning with Kathryn Haines, the Health Equity Manager at during this legislative session. Its only been 2 days, but already a wild ride (although not as wild as birth!)

💜Have you ever wanted a midwife but couldn't find one? 💙Have you ever wanted a midwife who accepted Medicaid? ❤️Have you ever wanted a midwife that accepted your insurance? 💚Have you ever wanted a midwife but couldn't pay out of pocket? 🩵Have you ever wanted to see a midwife in your community for prenatal or postpartum care, instead of 🚗 an hour or more 8-15x for a 15 minute appointment?

Midwives provide community driven care, at a fraction of the cost, with great outcomes! We are already serving in rural maternity deserts-but barriers for both consumers and providers is a problem!

If you have wanted a midwife, but barriers to access were just too hard, let me hear from you (send a DM)! Legislators like are listening. There is so much work to be done, but as a midwife, I know deep in my soul that community midwifery care matters!

💫ps... has a 💥veggie focassia sandwich!

That's a wrap 2025! As always, it was an honor and pleasure to be with each and every one of you. Hold the story of your birth close. There is nothing more powerful or humbling. ❤️

Community midwifery is honoring informed choice, with extra special education, collaboration, and support to make it happen. These healthy babies were born swiftly at home at 39.2 weeks. Baby A was 6lbs 11oz and Baby B was 7lbs 7oz. For my birthy nerds out there, this may look like mono/di twins (one placenta/two amniotic sacs), but they were actually di/di (two placentas/two sacs) but the placentas fused together. Growing babies, birthing babies, and trusting the process is never easy. But I believe in you❤️

Community midwifery sometimes means that plans change. The core of midwifery care is thoughtful support and guidance, no matter the location. I am grateful for fellow care providers who have different skills and welcome us with open arms when needed. I am grateful to all those who have trusted my midwife voice when making tough decisions.❤️

In honor of midwifery week, I want to highlight the work of community midwifery care. I will be posting photos of the work midwives do and the families we serve. All photos shared have been captured by RCM, and I am NOT a professional photographer, so keep that in mind.

My goal is to share what community midwifery truly looks like. This does not always translate to "home birth." But universally, midwives are here to support, guide and provide reproductive care. We are your ally, friend, and companion during one of the most vulnerable times of the human experience.

*all photos shared with permission
*if you have received midwifery care, regardless of where you gave birth and want to share, DM me.

In 2018, Linsey and I spontaneously opened a birth center and spent countless hours attending births, renovating buildings, establishing gardens, and generally causing "good trouble." And, like every good thing in life-it evolved.

In 2023, Linsey stepped back from Midwifery, and I consciously chose to close the birth center; focusing on a lower volume home birth practice. Thru these transitions, we have remained solid support for each other.

It's not easy to survive business, life, and relationship transitions-but we did it! And, in a few weeks, Linsey will be starting law school!

Friendships are hard to find and harder to keep. When you get a good one, hold onto it🩷

I know it's tough to hear, but you dont actually need to be "tough" for birth. This is why I don't question a person's ability to give birth at home based on "pain tolerance." Actually, practicing the art of "letting go" can go a long way when preparing for birth.

We are a tight ass society with lots of reasons to try and be perfect. But birth is NOT that. It's messy and unpredictable and requires flexibility. So, let's lean into that. And the softness❤️

Posting with lots of feels for the past today. I have been harvesting calendula- which goes into the postpartum sitz and also makes an amazing salve. But it's hot as Hades out there, and when I previously grew and collected calendua, it was in Vermont-and not so hot. But the smell and sticky resin of these flowers take me right back to Vermont.

It was here that I studied under Helena Wu, an amazing herbalist and midwife. She is humble and no longer practices, but her words of wisdom still ring true.

We all hold memories.

There are a few items that I cherish and hold sacred - including my grandmother's rocking chair, her mortar and pestal, and the birthing chair that Helena passed down.

All of these items remind me to slow down. Per the wisdom of my mentor, I am drying flowers of calendula, st john's wort, plantain and comfrey in random closets, attics and cars. I grew them from the ground up and they will not be produced with production in mind-but rather healing and sacred memories.

Becoming a midwife does not happen fast. Sitting on your hands while a baby is born takes great patience. Growing the herbs that support pregnancy and then cultivating them is a labor a love. It is all a labor a love.

So, if you are moving slow in this heat, that is what we are supposed to do. Soak in this slow, labor of summer love.❤️
